RogerNg_185295 6th Gear May 1, 2018 Share May 1, 2018 Also no one shout safety time out? Thought nowadays when someone shout safety time out all activities will stop and senior commanders will step in and check what happened, why this guy shout safety time out? Also if what the Facebook posting is true, then that leads to a flaw in how commanders are trained. Maybe they are too focus on thinking how these soldiers will keng their way out and neglect on person well being aspect. Plus I think all commanders should go for lesson on how to identify heat stroke. When comes to safety, I think anyone from lowest rank to highest rank to even medic or even stall auntie and etc should voice out. If it is the lowest rank or even medic shout safety time out, all commanders should take it very seriously (not thinking of this person want to keng, but find out what happened why this guy shout safety time out). The emphasis of safety time out is very important. Hope all commanders to keep remind his soldiers on every training/outfield/road March and etc that they are free to shout safety time out if anyone think someone life is in danger or something serious happen. Saf and the defence minister always preaches about safety culture . But they still allow commanders to treat those lower rank soldiers like animals. I do not know whether safety culture is just wayang talk only. Whatever it Is, as long as there are cover ups, saf will never learn its lessons . The blame always falls on the Lower rank people. Do people at the top got off Scots free? I think it's a big YES

I think it's a big YESas in every military around the world......they are protected from the rest of the outside world when it comes to justice. We can oni suck thumb. Military death during training happens regularly and they can say its part and parcel of being in the military. As long as there is no evidence of foul play those involved will be only given a slight tap on the wrist......just like the smoke grenades death. There have been instances where the family wanted to sue but stopped short as they knew it was a lost cause. We as former nsmen should know this hence its better to remind our loved ones who are about to be enlisted to be aware and careful of the dangers while training. And if one of ours becomes a leader in the platoon, company or battalion we should remind them that being human is about compassion and empathy to those under their command.

Higher ups get the credit despite all the hard work put in by their staff but when mistakes are made, blame gets pushed to the lower ranks. In a statement released on Tuesday evening (May 1), Brigadier-General Siew Kum Wong added that the dead soldier, Private Dave Lee Han Xuan, 19, had received posthumous recognition of the rank of Corporal First Class. He also said that Pte Lee, a Guardsman from the 1st Battalion Singapore Guards, will be awarded the Guards and Recon military tabs, as well as the Guards beret he had been training for. "The Army will do our utmost to support his family in this time of grief," BG Siew said. Hours before, a Facebook user claiming to be from Pte Lee's battalion published a post detailing what had happened the night before, as well as during and after the march that preceded his collapse. On Tuesday, a woman who said she was Pte Lee's aunt shared the post, and asked for clarity from SAF. In his statement, BG Siew reiterated that an independent Committee of Inquiry, chaired by a senior civil servant from outside Mindef or the SAF, will investigate Pte Lee's death. "Should there be training safety violations, the personnel responsible will be held accountable," he said.

Throttle2 Supersonic May 1, 2018 Share May 1, 2018 (edited) Should have been a given - but looks like it wasn't ensured in this case? OK, i exaggerated. Nobody really vomitted water lah, but you get the idea Basically many drank till said cannot cannot, but there was no letting up. Just swallow... Well, i started in Tekong Camp 1. Alpha coy. Not sure if it was ensured. The investigations will reveal, i hope. But I always feel that we do have to hold the first responsibility to ourselves. As in, we must know how to take care of ourselves. Anyway I wasnt exaggerating. We were forced to drink 3 bottles at one go Some of us vomitted some did not . But all in agony after the 2 bottle. Those who didnt finish couldnt go to bed. I think it's a big YESTreat those lower rank soldiers like shit its okay as long as they know HOW TO IDENTIFY soldier health issue or anything weird. Looks like these commanders still unable to identify all these clear sign of heat stroke. Anyway I again must emphasize that saf should maybe update the protocol that for all commanders to tell all soldiers to shout safety time out if they see any danger and or personal with health concern or going to pass out or etc. Don't care what rank just shout. Even if there are big shots around just shout safety time out if it is really something very serious, if need be not one but many shout safety time out to raise the safety concern if spotted. This safety time out should be emphasize before EVERY training / road March and etc start by commanders. Maybe during break time emphasize again on the importance of safety time out. Keep on repeat this safety time out issue until it gets to solider head. So once something not right hopefully one solider will suddenly think of hey I could shout safety time out. This could save people life. From the Facebook post on the private death.. There is no mention of anyone shout safety time out which is one of my main concern. If let's say there are people who shout safety time out and those commanders still treat the said private like this that caused his death then they are even more punishable. Anyway let's wait for investigation report to come out 1st. Edited May 1, 2018 by Yewheng

Indeed we must take good care of ourselves, first and foremost. I am not an advocate to geng, but i did make sure that I never pushed myself (much) to the point where i gave 100% - always keeping that last 2-3% - lest anything untoward should happen if i pushed myself all the way. Made that decision when i saw someone ran 2.4 during BMT, and he biah'ed until the point where he just dropped on crossing the finish line, and needed a few minutes of help from the medics and instructors on standby, before he could be helped up... wow, 3 bottles was more than me. For sure won't ever get heat stroke if all of you had done that obediently.

There is limited alternatives in ns (certain vocation)........the only time there is alternative is when such fatality happen. Can be crappy at time but thats how military around the world works.......except ours are compulsary conscription thats why its such a big hoohaa.

Evillusion Supersonic May 2, 2018 Share May 2, 2018 It is dangerous to leave all training to NS boys, not sure if it is still done this way. These people are in their early 20 and they sometimes can be irrational.usually in active combat units each section has 2 seccom.....1 is nsf and the other is regular and the platoon SGTs are always regulars. In most training all the ncos and sncos should be there but at times only 1 seccom is needed and it should be enough to cover the section. But for force march both seccoms are usually there........ Kusje Supersonic May 2, 2018 Share May 2, 2018 It sounds really serious, the alleged breaching of multiple TSRs and multiple specs (dunno if got officer) involved. TSR is broken in the army everyday..... But this is a particularly serious breach that led to a death. The commanders, NSF or regulars, all deserve jail if the eyewitness report is true. Is the eyewitness facebook account a "real one"? If so, he is a very brave hero of our nation because I am sure he will be punished. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/dave-lee-19-year-old-national-serviceman-dies-bedok-camp-heat-10189324 No mention of the allegations on facebook at all. And they expect us to trust the government controlled media? ↡ Advertisement
