Who like dogs?

i find the 6 mth quarantine period a little overdone. AVA has the same rules.

a dog averages 12 to 15 yr of life. 6 mth is ~4% of its life. a cat averages 15 years. So the same 4% applies.

perhaps 3 mths of quarantine? from a layman perspective, any potential disease would already have surfaced?

that's for animals from unknown origins? I think normal dogs only quarantined for 2 weeks. my friend imported a few before.

i googled. it seems to be max 30 days now.

some years back when i was asked to go overseas for work, i rejected the offer as i will need to quarantine my cats for 6 months (checked the AVA website then) when i come back for good.

Reading about the vaccinations and preventive maintenance part.

Are dogs routinely dewormed here in singapore?

Heartworm and the other usual worms?

Frankly singapore has virtually no parasites for human adults. But dogs i don't know.

Vets would recommend.  Now they have the deworm plus ticks/flea prevention tablet 2-in-1, so I just started mine on it.

My previous dog wasn't on regular deworming med, lived to 13 years (long for a large breed).

As a doc you know better of how the conditions are here.... part of your job.... like what you said no parasites but me preambree tree oni studi 1

But we are not well informed/ knowleageable about all this and whatever the Vets say we just do ...... the Bills mount too

For you can treat yourself too leh

I go to polyclinic for me own medicals.... cost abt $20-30 at most [grin]  , Go Vet clinic with blood tests and scans sometimes and what not supplements and what not everytime at least got $300++, even though the consultation fee only like about $60-$75 , mine had high levels of proteins so had to do blood tests every 3 months (did almost 8 times and then the Vet said that he might be borne with this issue since his other organs are ship shape); Sometimes the bill is even $1,000++ when got dental and other issues which they always will come up with especially big dogs ... hips dyplaxia problems

Even glucosamine which he gave my dog..... I stopped buying from him as I said I'm giving him my polyclinic ones as I checked with my friends say can give the human one is fine, even some oils like omega and flaxseed ,i just give human ones... too much mechandising nowadays by them Vets

Hi Lala,

yes it is better if you stick to the yearly routine. Also do remember to register your new fur ball with AVA.

Yes ... mine was on (the deworming one is the tablet form one right) tablet dosage based on weight ... i remember his dosage was like 1 1/2 tablets every quarter (Aristopet)  & then later came the Advocate brand  option in small vials which was supposed to be more advanced

some vets don't mind giving medicine prescriptions. As some of the medicine are human drugs, it is way cheaper to get from hospital pharmacies or Guardian. for pure animal drugs, online is definitely cheaper. Or can buy in JB vets if you drive over regularly.

my go-to online medicine website for animal medicine: https://www.viovet.co.uk/   they deliver to SG for a flat fee of GBP10 (as long as not bulky items). have been buying from them since 2007. roughly half the price of what i get from the vet (depending on exchange rate). it's not that the vets charge us high, it's because they get the medicine from the distributors expensive as well.

Looking to bring Gobi back to Edinburgh with him, Leonard began a crowdsourcing campaign in August that drew worldwide attention and raised more than CAD$61,000 to cover the $8,600 for Gobi’s medical and quarantine fees. While Leonard tried his best to bring Gobi home, the dog stayed with friends in China.
