don't worry.

after a couple of months, they will come tear down the walkway and rebuilt again.

this is to spend all the excess money they have collected from you.

They don't usually touch the walkways much nowadays, especially the covered parts.

Nowadays i notice it's the void decks etc that need work.

Hope maintenance will not be prohibitive.

sure need to maintain quite a bit. sometimes got leaks. and also not every walkway can be designed without the leaves and twigs clogging up on top. The ones on the main road are usually flat roof. Only some of the intra block ones are sloping (but must build higher) to reduce such debris accumulating on the roof.

Pre fab is cheaper compared to on site construction.. and it’s en mass pre fab... surely that cost is too high...

Have to compare with other outdoor works? like how much it cost to resurface a road etc or building a bus stop.

My block, they just came and break up the concrete skirting around the block although it was in good condition, and then redo the same old concrete.

TC got too much money to spend.

So far for my parents place, they mostly do what's necessary but HIP was just few years ago, so the condition is quite good.

My BTO is 5 years so not much stuff being done. Only thing is they dunno what to do with the spaces where the plants cant grow due to shade and too much rain water coming down and killing the plants. so mostly become soil with some weak plants.

New HDB block design is to maximise light entering living rooms and bedrooms but downside is the other areas are permanently shaded like kitchens.

But yes, some years, they do funny things. But mostly useful stuff.

The drop off porch lights were not so bright last time, then now its full LED. Much better visibility.

They must create work for the workers they employed lo. Same like they always dig the road, patched it back and dig again.

no wonder people nowadays dun carry umbrella   [rolleyes]

I never leave home without my umbrella now lo. Only last time when drive then i dont carry umbrella de.

thats why if you watch those old black/white movies, it was SOP for people to carry a brolly around especially in London  ..... thats how the greeting in the old days started with "Hows the Weather Mate"...... which is unheard of today....with all the creature comfort shelters everywhere there too I suppose

Actually if you always take bus, still need umbrella la even there is sheltered walkway at the bus stop. Cause you still need to open your umbrella when getting in and out of the bus, and maybe still need to cross some traffic lights to get home from the bus-stop. Usually if you are only taking MRT, esp if your house is near to MRT station, high chance cover walkways all the way, so no need umbrella.

Covered walkways are indeed beneficial but looking at some built around my neighborhood, they do seem rather elaborate and therefore costly. Like, some of them even have fancy design concrete bases ... whatever for? Just need simple construction with tubular frames and corrugated zinc (?) roofs like those older style bus stops. Won't cost 1.5 million per km.

Some walkways I find it rather over building and looks rather messy, for example a long stretch of covered walkway to a bus stop only. Some trees have to be cut down because of these long covered walkways. I wonder what's wrong with using the umbrella these days.

This can be due to some people complaining about why this area has no covered walkways or why covered walkways don't link to the place. Covered walkways are beneficial, especially linking from one main place to another. However some aspects have become overbuilding leading to over-reliance and over-demanding for them to be built on every single damn area. Here don't have, complain don't have. Umbrella cannot use? While building these walkways are beneficial for the elderly and children, if they don't get rid of those PMD nuisances, build how many walkways also no use.

Some places I often go still do not have the luxury of having covered walkways, I am glad I still know how to use the umbrella. Covered walkways is a good thing, but not really a must have. Anti slip walkways are more important.

Walk outside, either flatten by cars on the roads on one side, fall into the drain or bitten by snakes in the grass on the other side.  [laugh]
