Atrecord Supersonic September 29, 2018 Share September 29, 2018 Goods and commercial vehicles have been allowed to travel at high speed on lane 2 and 3 of those 4-5 lane expressways for god knows how long. It was an accident waiting to happen. Just like the PMDs were allowed to be used/sold and then injured and killed pedestrians. That was LTA fault? For this type of accidents. I can only wonder what has that Sam Tan or TP head been thinking?? Allow self-regulate, let nature take its course, leave buses/commercial vehicles that cannot accelerate or brake as fast as cars go at high speed and no need to keep left... It was always a matter of time. RIP to the deceased. From the Straits Times, van travelling in the second lane from the right The Straits Times understands that one of the vans had been travelling in the second lane from the right when a car in front of it braked. The driver of the van then jammed on his brakes to avoid a collision with the car. When the lorry driver saw this, he swerved to the left to avoid hitting the van, but ended up crashing into another van which was travelling on his left. The lorry had been carrying crates of glass bottles, which fell off and smashed on the highway, covering at least three lanes with a mixture of broken glass, crates, and liquid. It is not yet known how the motorcycle was involved in the accident. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/motorcyclist-killed-in-four-vehicle-accident-which-left-glass-bottles-strewn-across-the?xtor=cs1-10 ↡ Advertisement
Ysc3 Twincharged September 29, 2018 Share September 29, 2018 How can speed cam cause accidents? Its the drivers who cause accidents right? Incompetent drivers. More and more drivers like this on the roads. If drivers are always travelling at or below speed limit, I don't see why there is a need to slow down when there is a speed cam. And even if the driver behind encounters an incompetent driver that has to slow down at speed cam, I don't see why there will be an accident unless the drivers behind don't follow a safe distance behind or are distracted. Then there are some other drivers who will comment that speed limit too low. They don't know how to drive at the speed limit or lower. Don't know how these drivers pass their driving test also. last night watch this new "car crash TV" on channel 5 ... although not featuring local vids, it shows accidents in foreign lands. when i looked at the vids, i keep asking myself, why those who got into accidents travel so fast and so oblivious to their surroundings. Kb27 Supersonic September 29, 2018 Share September 29, 2018 Walau the pedestrian didn't even turn her head to check for oncoming vehicles when jaywalking across a major road. https://www.facebook.com/Roads.sg/videos/525047841256149/ jaywalker deserved it. good thing it's somebody else teaching her a lesson, and not me. Darn it, tailgate somemore.. See la Screenshot_20180929-141410.png This is the yesterday jam. Very bad, pie accident, cte accident, bukit Tomah road also affected all the way red till junction of bukit Timah shopping center there. It's time for authorities to update the traffic office to include tailgating will also get summon, this is so that less drivers will tailgate and to reduce this kind of accidents where drivers find it no time to brake and don't want rear end car as once hit the front vehicle = he at fault. s So driver swing the vehicle out and pray for the best. If more and more drivers do this, more and more this type of massive jam will happen and affect more communiters. At that time, Waze direct me to take AYE instead. These drivers never learned, they always like to tailgate. And don't keep their distance, bcuz it "doesn't happen to me"

Theoldjaffa Hypersonic September 30, 2018 Share September 30, 2018 I say bring back the yellow blinkers for commercial vehicles. Once they hit the vehicle limit, the yellow blinkers will blink and the speed warning chime will sound. I think swerving is a natural reaction but if traffic is moderate to heavy, I think it is better to just jam brake straight to reduce collateral damage.

Vratenza Supersonic September 30, 2018 Share September 30, 2018 With technology so advanced these days, most fleet commercial vehicles will have GPS tracking system. Am sure it is simply just making it mandatory for the GPS signalling and tracking (with GPS speed recording) to be submitted TP on regular basis. Heck, I even support tax money to be used to subsidize this endeavour. Instead of spending millions on high tech laser speed camera system, they could have spend the same money to boost their back end automation to filter out consistently speeding commercial vehicles. That will keep these commercial drivers on their toes. Yes business owners will hate my suggestion. Just ask themselves what if the deceased motorcyclist is one of their relatives or friends. Wt_know Supersonic September 30, 2018 Share September 30, 2018 (edited) bro, that’s ERP 2.0 coming every IU unit is a GPS tracker ah gong hold all the data for analytics and surveillance API will be opened up for SI to tap into the system to track vehicle, build application like Grab, overlay the application with Google maps, realtime traffic info ie flood, issue summon, warning for parking violation, etc etc etc not sure the GPS system would be so precise to detect “lanes” which i doubt so .... It depends on the GPS receiver that'll be incorporated in the IU.. Most current GPS receivers have an accuracy of 5 meters and only a handful of new GPS receivers have an accuracy of about 30cm. And to get millimetres accuracy, it'll be a very expensive system to be implemented which is only use for some critical construction works. So in one words, most likely unable to detect which lane the vehicle is on.

Commercial vehicle speeds are not regulated to be lower than other vehicles in other countries. Don’t seem to hear about the higher accident rates cause by commercial vehicles over there. Maybe our locals or foreign drivers here cmi.
Hamburger Hypersonic September 30, 2018 Share September 30, 2018 some stretches of xpressway are 4 to 5 lanes. But whats the use? at least 3/4 of it are used by commercial vehicle + road hoggers that travels at 90km/h.
