StingerGT 5th Gear September 13, 2018 Share September 13, 2018 I find it a pain to be behind drivers who use stage acceleration, let go, press again, too much, let go, rinse and repeat. You don’t need to tailgate such people to realize that pain because it’s difficult to moderate your throttle properly to match his. I’m the kind with more pressure from the get go then reach cruising speed liao just apply minimal constant pressure to sustain the speed, if traffic allows. But the bugger infront stop start stop start, I confirm will overtake. ↡ Advertisement

Ct3833 Supersonic September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 I notice some cab drivers did (2) once they hit the highway to recharge their prius hybrid batteries. I ever witness before the cabbie pump the pedal and the display shows the engine charging the batt and running the car. Then when he let go the pedal the rolling of the car continue to charge the batt while engine cut off. Then pump again to repeat process. The cabbie manages to charged his batt from 1/4 full to 1/2 full in that 10 to 15min trip in the highway!! I wonder if you feel vomiting after the trip?
Soya Supersonic September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 Don't see this thread before but I think it was discussed before in other forums. How do you move off or accelerate in an auto car? Do you 1) jam the accelerator 2) move off slowly, release accelerator, press again and release then press.... 3) light pressing of accelerator until desired speed I believe few will do number 1. But I heard driving instructors teach both 2&3 so lai lai let's discuss. Who do what and why and is it better? We had a thread on manual cars so let's talk about auto cars. Why so complicated? Set to launch control, floor throttle and away u go...!
Vratenza Supersonic September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 Hybrid batteries are not like full EV, the capacity is lower and it is configured such that when cruising, it will default to petrol mode at overdrive gear while charging the battery. No benefit in pumping accelator to charge.. I think what u observe is just a non-refined way for the taxi uncle to maintain the cruising speed whenever it slows down. so a full hybrid charge only last you a few full throttle acceleration. Jamesc Hypersonic September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 People accelerate depends on the colour of the lights. The first car when the lights turn green will accelerate very gently especially when I am the second car. The fifth car when the lights turn yellow will accelerate faster. The sixth car going through the red light will accelerate like Lewis Hamilton.

Really hate those 4 or 5th cars (in general) when I am behind whose drivers step on the accelerator as if stepping on their own balls, resulting in the lights turning red before I cross! They should be taught that missing the green lights and have the car idle for an additional minute consumes more fuel than stepping on it like a man.
Jamesc Hypersonic September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 (edited) Some also do the accelerate brake accelerate thing. Yellow light accelerate, red light brake, see no camera accelerate again. Edited September 14, 2018 by Jamesc
inlinesix Hypersonic September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 In general, i hate driving on Singapore road. Usually, 1st driver is daydreaming resulted in wasted 30sec once traffic light turns green. A lot of driver totalling has no throttle control at all. Only know jam throttle jam brake.

Sotong1977 4th Gear September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 (edited) I do number 1 and 3 according to................ 1) jam the accelerator - with MIL in the car 3) light pressing of accelerator until desired speed - with wife or kids in the car With your MIL, you should do no. 2. Do it correctly and she will throw up in no time. But do prepare a vomit bag in advance. Edited September 14, 2018 by Sotong1977
Beehive3783 Turbocharged September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 This would be understeer. I scared not to downshift hor......i nearly slammed into the right railing of bke to sle once.....got distracted just before the corner so i didnt shift down so i braked but the car seemed to be on a straight trajectory even as i was steering to the left. Not sure how but i managed to downshift and made the s corner. Nowadays seldom can get both lane free due to heavy traffic and slow heavy vehicle.
Tiger1 6th Gear September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 WA... The question machiam sex. How do you engage in sex? 1. Full acceleration off the line.. 2. Move gently and accelerate smoothly. 3. Light pressing and adjust speed accordingly.
Angcheek Hypersonic September 14, 2018 Share September 14, 2018 For me (1) i get 10km/l , (3) I also get around 10km/l , no prizes for guessing one I went for something is wrong with your foot ....... You using the 3rd leg ?
Philipkee Twincharged September 15, 2018 Author Share September 15, 2018 Next question. How do you stop with an auto car for prolonged periods (not parking. Let's say at traffic lights)? Do you 1) leave your foot on foot brake? 2) turn to neutral and handbrake up? 3) start stop makes this question redundant? 4) others I notice a lot of people do 1. But I heard it's unsafe because if a car knocks into you from behind your leg slips off the foot brake and you will lurch forward. Or if you get distracted and your leg slips off the foot brake..... But 2. causes wear and tear 3. No comments but seems weird when I sit in cars with this feature.
