randomuserss 1st Gear August 4, 2019 Share August 4, 2019 Abt 40 per day. Cheap la 40 including rs tax, insurance n maintenance le But Altis FC not good enough la. Thanks again for the input. After much consideration, decided that buying a car instead of renting would probably be better especially in the current COE climate. Have factored in things like Insurance.. pinto22sg 2nd Gear August 4, 2019 Share August 4, 2019 Buying a new car to drive phv is good for the first few years. But each year the mileage clocked can be very high, and wveey few years will need to overhaul which will cost a lot. This is something most people didn't foresee. The cost will eat into the earnings, not to mention the interest incurred in the car loan. Think again.

Grab is a platform to help those who can't afford to drive/ own a brand NEW car. I see so many young people driving grab full time these days when the returns are so low (after grab killed Uber), just so they can have their own wheels. If you are still young, please go find a proper job and learn some real skills, driving grab does not require skills. In 10-20 years when autonomous vehicles hit the road, you are going to be middle aged, without a skill and jobless. Leave the grab jobs to middle age guys like us. Any advice? Thanks. Dont forget also, comparing with working, you have no medical coverage , no CPF from your employer, no annual leaves meaning everyday you stop driving you lose money, no increments, no bonus. It depends on how old you are now and what you want in life in a longer run. There are some who do not like to work under supervision and like to have freedom, then that is a different trade off knowing the pros and cons . Yewheng Twincharged August 5, 2019 Share August 5, 2019 Hi, If drive under current incentive. Weekday 9am to 5pm. Weekend 7am to 12pm. 5.5days. Can earn 2.5k per mth after all expenses? Any advice? Thanks. 9am to 5pm = about 200 to 280 gross earning. Take average about 250 gross. Less 20% = 200 net each day. So Monday to Friday earn about 1k net. Sat and sun 7am to 12pm = 5 hrs. = about 120 to 180 gross. Average about 150. 150 deduct 20% commission = 120. So sat and sun earn about 240 net. So 1 week about 1240. 4 weeks = 4960. Incentives I not too sure. Let's say take 50 per week. 4 weeks = 200. So total 5160. Let's make it 5.2k So 5.2k you go deduct the petrol, car rental or car installment + maintenance + insurance and road tax. That will be the final amount you could get back. Proberly yeah close to 2.5k after deduct all the expenses.

Proberly yeah close to 2.5k after deduct all the expenses. Base on what this bro has shared, can earn gross about 5.2k per month with the driving pattern. If the car is a 2 to 3 year old rental Altis without contract, it will be $67.95/day --> $2038.50 per month. So that leave about 3.2k before deducting petrol. I would think petrol at $700 should be achievable given that petrol is selling at subsidized rate for certain PHV drivers, leaving $2.5k after all expenses deducted. If driver paid for the car upfront and handle all car-related cost himself, then could be earning more for the first few years and facing mounting maintenance cost later on that reduce the earnings. And if you do not need the car after the hours, can sub it out to relieve drivers at slight costs to earn more, even if only on selected nights. This is if the driver treat the car as a tool to make money. But think most would want to keep the car to themselves as part of incentives. Maybe can get family members to relieve then, if available.

How come there are still so many drivers around?
pinto22sg 2nd Gear August 5, 2019 Share August 5, 2019 Many phv drivers have full time job, and they drive phv part time, to own a car. Most are young people who have no family time commitment, and are young and energetic. One of them told me each day he drives about 3 hours, and longer on Saturday, can cover rental of a mazda3, and still make a bit. The rest should be property agent and tutors. Schanks Neutral Newbie August 6, 2019 Share August 6, 2019 Anyone has insights on PR applying for PDVL? Rickster 5th Gear August 6, 2019 Share August 6, 2019 Abt 40 per day. Cheap la 40 including rs tax, insurance n maintenance le But Altis FC not good enough la. Ya, FC is a big concern if average mileage a day is say: 350Km x 26 working days per month = 9100km per month. Old altis FC from what I know from colleagues and friends who drove that model can average 12km/L. That means a full time PHV driver can easily spend around 1.2k per month on petrol.
