ksekar 1st Gear December 17, 2018 Share December 17, 2018 (edited) Hi ksekar, Do also look at mazda 2.0 standard at 95k nia since you mentioned non suv of mazda 3. I made the mistake of not looking at it and missed the launch price 3 months back cos had thought it 120k+ since about same category of accord, camry etc. Forester's stock exterior is not what I will covet but bland and odd outlander or xtrail look much worse to me and the initial has AWD preferred. Cheers. Richard Hi Richard, Yes, Mazda 6 offer right now is unbelievable. I’m fixated on SUV, so out of my consideration. richard_crl032 6th Gear December 18, 2018 Author Share December 18, 2018 (edited) Hi Richard, Yes, Mazda 6 offer right now is unbelievable. Iâm fixated on SUV, so out of my consideration. Iâll probably regret it later ð. I did consider CX5, but the model sold for 108k was out of stock. Also had a look at CX3, was too small for my liking. In fact, after trying out Forester - Tucson, CX5 and Karoq looked claustrophobic! I was really looking forward to 1.6turbo of Tucson, but was really disappointed by initial lag, felt like it really struggled to carry the heavy body. The SE asked me to hit the pedal for real turbo action to kick-in, but that is not my driving style. Regarding Forester body kit, I was offered sports grill and STI gear knob cover for free, but declined the offer as not my taste. Hu Ksekar Dun think getting last few fna sj instead of mazda 6 2.0 standard will be a mistake. SUV is a happy car compared to a sedan for family both young and old ... great short vacation up north albiet at the typical expense of higher FC. Was looking for SUV also but gave up and hence ended up with the mazda 6 2.0 executive for my wife since we already have the forester xt and quite dumb to have 2 foresters. Din know 1.6 turbo tucson had lag and feel more lacking that fna sj ... cos I made the mistake of overlooking it for test drive cos I had tot it was diesel which I avoid ... feels betta now ..lol ! CX5 was noisy than mazda 6 2.0 since engine is near to driver and the dashboard was high which blocks visibility a bit .. did not help when it was a substantial increase and interior is bested by very nice mazda 6. Avoided the Karoq with lousy reception over the phone with SE as well as concern of the brand and aftersales support. Cannot accept look of both outlander and xtrail and not into mpv ... just scrapped estima to know pros and cons of one. Was desperate even to test drove the oddball eclipse but droning sound from gearbox and overall interior was not preferred. Only suv preferred with the very nice volvo xc40 but was 162k and not current 149k ... had wanted to fulfill wife's wish for a owning a conti but audi q2 was a joke and hence noticably few on the road despite being around for 1.5 yr or more. Nevertheless, believe you should have taken the sport grill and sti gear knob which many will gladly swap with you with nice 300-500 in your pocket .. On new forester sk fna, did SE informed you that MI will not provide solar film for windscreen or you have to sign disclaimer that you be responsible ?? Cheers. Richard Thanks for sharing notes of your experience with CX5 and others, good to know as I didn’t go for test drive. Another reason to reject Karoq is fabric seat. Replacing it with leather will void side airbag warranty! I prefer SUV over my current sedan due to spacious interior, higher driving position for my wife and ease of getting in and out for my FIL, who really struggle hard to get into a sedan. No other reason. MI SE did mention something about solar film for new Forester, but I was not really interested anyway due to price difference and 10k VES. Also not very confident of fancy eyesight, trust my instincts more than that of computer. The only features that attracted me were modern HU, electric tailgate and parking brake. Damn, I now wish I had taken the sports body kit and sold it. Didn’t know there are people interested in spending that kind of money for it!

PS: Special mention about Octavia. The build was exceptional! I realized what it was like to handle a continental car. The doors were heavy and felt confident to handle, steering wheel was nice to hold and the interior was very pleasant for the eyes and butt.I had a hard time controlling urge to take it out for test drive! Joel_X 1st Gear December 24, 2018 Share December 24, 2018 Good day. Am interested in the new forester, however reading through and hearing from the SE, there are 2 specific concerns Im having. 1. As mentioned in the earlier post, MI will not be installing solar film for the front windscreen, as per recommendation by Subaru. Anyone has any issue with insurance? (do not think there should be any), or any need to declare and specify installing it to the insurance? 2. The main attraction of forester for me is the eyesight system (on a SUV at $110k price point). Thus anyone had installed aftermarket solar film and noticed the system to be un-operatable (in both day and night scenario)? If no issue, what recommendation of solar film had you installed?

Hi Joel, No bro here shared specifically declaring aftermarket solar film on windscreen and had insurer approved. Issue is that once you declare such exception, insurer will force online application for agent to contact and it is still up to them it they will proceed or not .. what if they dun and you are stuck with car with solar film on windscreen in nice hot Singapore where some of us find sj version needing 2nd layer solar film due to big surface and non tinted glass ? On bro mentioned Subaru will install but buyer has to sign disclaimer which is also not advisable ... it does mean that MI are not assured of future issues despite more legal power than any individual buyer can muster up. I understand some xv with eyesight owners dun care and fitted their own but I can say that insurers can void any accident claims under violation of undeclared aftermarket fitment which this will likely falls under when even Subaru Japan and MI refuse to do so. With this in mind, believe you 2nd query is no longer relevent ... if even Subaru Japan who designed eyesight cannot advise MI what solar film and how to fit them, will you take my proposal or some workshop shared experience ?? Cheers. Richard

Clarify on the disclaimer, the SE mentioned its for owners to acknowledge that the eyesight is an assistance feature and drivers are still fully responsible. Think this make sense as no automaker will guarantee their system will be 100% and take up the liability. Agree with your stand that solar film is needed in sunny Singapore. Had before bought a 2nd hand car without front solar film and immediately went to install after 1 day of driving. Thus would hope to have some feedback from owners if any had installed solar film and the eyesight system is practically usable/unusable, even from other models like XV or impreza (with these having the eyesight longer). Hi Joel, Noted and tks but even more strange ... which other ADs ask their buyer to sign disclaimers ?? Or you mean only if they fix solar film for you and then you need to sign disclaimer for something regardless with or without solar film ... ummhhh. Cheers. Pricing abit steep and deciding to go for XV instead. If you had bought a Subaru XV in early January 2019, it was a good decision as Coe was at the lowest point thus far. Cat B Coe has gone up by almost $6K from Dec '18 lows; and is expected to be firm or possibly uptrend going forward.
