Spring Moderator September 20, 2018 Share September 20, 2018 Arsenal n Chelsea won in UEL last night to keep the flag flying for EPL. Gunners won 4-2 vs Vorskla whilst Chelsea won 1-0 away at PAOK Salonika. Frankly the standard in UEL esp in the group stages is nothing to crow about n so I can’t understand why UEFA has announced plans for a third European club competition! The second tier UEL is already being made up of some inferior teams so can’t imagine what quality a third competition will bring. ↡ Advertisement

Spring Moderator September 21, 2018 Share September 21, 2018 We shall see if it really brings in $ cos fans are saturated both by the no. Of games played and also by the ever increasing cost of watching matches. Everyone has a limit n as can be seen by the empty terraces at the Etihad for the City v Lyon UCL game, fans are turning away but admittedly for that particular match I think City fans have some grievances with UEFA as well.

Beregond Supersonic September 21, 2018 Share September 21, 2018 return of the Intertoto Cup! its not intertoto cup i refering to . last time got 3 major cups . i think its call cups winner cup only the champion of the leag for that country can play in the european cup. i would say its much harder to win compare to the UCL now. late 1990+ then they allow runner up to take part also. now suddenly become 4.

Yes it's the cup winners cup. It gives a chance for the weaker teams to play in Europe. Cup Winners' Cup: 0 Champions League: 5: 1977; 1978; 1981; 1984; 2005 Europa League: 3: 1973; 1976; 2001 Super Cup: 3: 1977; 2001; 2005 Edited September 21, 2018 by Jamesc

Huh so those clubs that only won it once have to give it back the next year? Then there will be a big hole in their trophy cabinet. Such a prestigious tournament make one new cup every year also cannot? The poor winner have to take a cup "used" by so many teams before. Do they have to clean and polish it before giving back and if a bit scratch and dented how? Madrid has the cup this year and they are a dirty team no wonder Man City not interested. Pep didn't even bother to go and sit in the dug out. It all make sense now. Edited September 21, 2018 by Jamesc

( I think I remember so. Need Google to confirm) Lol. Actually alot of young soccer fans already forget Pools.belong to this special group. AC Milan also same. They better buk up before ppl forget them.....

How r they going to choose the teams for this new 3rd trophy? It will be diluted for sure unless they go back to the old format of Cup winners playing separately n even then the 2nd, 3rd, 4th teams are already in UCL unlike before so the UEL n this new 3rd competition will prove to be the poorer cousins for sure. Let’s see what they come up with.

Spring Moderator October 2, 2018 Share October 2, 2018 So finally the telcos Singtel n Starhub got the rights for UCL/UEL in place n I think Mio even showing some Championship games which they did previously as well. So credit to them for addressing some of the grouses of us football fans though Mio still not showing Serie A, La Liga. Anyway, back to the action over the next 3 nights highlight of which shld be Spurs v Barca n Napoli v Pool. Messi against EPL team is always a challenge for him n playing at Wembley, this shld be a treat

Jamesc Hypersonic October 2, 2018 Share October 2, 2018 Maybe ST and SH can do a join bid to buy the rights and not let a third part buy the rights and carrot us. Let's play smart.
Jamesc Hypersonic October 2, 2018 Share October 2, 2018 Anyone knows if this is a one year deal or a 3 year deal? Have to go through all this uncertainty every year? ↡ Advertisement
