Currently, only e-bike/PMD requires a license.  I don't think any enforcement other than on delivery guys only.

I do hope it extends to normal bikes too. I cycle my daughter to school everyday and I don't mind if there's a need to register and whatever requirements there is to make it a safer roads/pavements/void decks/PCN, etc for everyone

Likewise if our ride (vehicle) doesn't come with reg nos. What would be our road going to be like for sake. 😓 It all boil down to registration equal to responsibility and accountability.

Expand

A vehicle has a higher probability to kill someone.  That's why 3rd party liability and registration are required.

Accordingly, if we apply the same logic, all bicycle that is not cycling on the road requires it more than those on the road.

Would MCF allows you to use its name?

Expand

Maybe not. But it's ok not to use MCF name. They just need to know where to find us. 🤣 and just say we represent car interest group/road users interest groups

That's my wish as it will reduce the number of cyclists substantially.

We can't say it's nothing without enforcement. I really think there are so much so much less illegal e scooters on the roads and pavements compare to before there was legislation. You may disagree though. But personally I felt so.

Expand

For PMD, it is really much easier to enforce since it is a matter of catching them on the road with them during the enforcement blitz operations. Just like drunk driver enforcement blitz. It is either you are riding an illegal mobility device or you are not.

For cyclists, you have to catch them contravening the "limp" and "soft" recommendations in the act at the right moment.

Having other road users who caught them in the act with their car cam is useless since no one can catch an unregistered cyclist.

The problem with some cyclists go beyond these roads.

They are also a big menace within a housing estate. When they cycle along pedestrian footpaths, playgrounds, childcare center, in-between blks, etc the probability of causing a serious injury is real.

A good example is an elderly on wheelchair moving out from a lift. A cyclist going perpendicularly to the wheelchair bound elderly may very well kill him/her when they collide because there's not enough reaction time.

I've seen plenty of close shaves on footpaths near childcare centers. Irresponsible cyclists just make use of those footpaths like their KPE/PIE/CTE/KJE/BKE/ECP and when I brought this up with the authorities, they'll just shoot a standard reply saying that they can't do much because of wheelchairs.

This dangerous situation is the same as PMDs and no parents will want to see their kids injured in this way, elderlies as well.

Just to add.

There's this very long and straight footpath just outside a primary school near my place. Food delivery cyclists love to make use of it and the school gates run perpendicular to the footpath.

The speeding problem is bad enough for the cyclists and combine this with the danger of running into kids when they step out of the gate, I just don't understand why this obvious danger can be left there alone for years.

Maybe because in the past there wasn't so much food delivery riders?

May be helpful if this is highlighted to the school, MOE and LTA.

Ask if waiting for a death, severe injuries to kids or bicycle before appropriate action is taken to ensure safety for all?

Mention that you will happily share on social media that this danger has been highlighted to all parties but no action taken, should such incidents take place.

Prevention is better than cure.

Stay safe

It's up to the school principal and parents to take action.  Like installing bollards, zig zag gates etc.

Yes I did and the standard reply is they can't do much because of wheelchair users.

They can install a big camera there, if not done so, as a detergent, I mean, deterrent.

Worse case scenario, there is a video footage should there be any incident.

Or give constant reminders to students and parents to check before dashing out of gate.

Haiz. Can't ban wheelchair users from using the pavement too. Bollards n all will not be effective as bicycles are smaller sized than wheelchairs so pointless.

👍Kudos for taking time and making effort to write in to the relevant authorities.

Stay safe

Cheers
