StreetFight3r 6th Gear August 10, 2018 Share August 10, 2018 (edited) Is this considered invasion of privacy? I wonder if they inform the residents before inspecting. Quote SINGAPORE: It’s a bright, sunny day and you’re just stretching out to open your windows to let the warm rays into the house when you see a drone staring right back at you. Some residents, living in one of four Housing and Development Board (HDB) blocks in Jurong East, could have experienced that recently. That is because the HDB had embarked on a small-scale, week-long trial late in July to see if drones are able to complement building inspection efforts, particularly for hard to reach places or those that may pose more risk. An HDB spokesperson told Channel NewsAsia that the agency and town councils carry out such regular inspections of public housing facades to make sure they are in good condition. These, the spokesperson said, are typically carried out by workers using gondolas. That said, the intention of the drone pilot for the four HDB blocks was to “carry out more comprehensive inspections, especially at areas which are less accessible to workers using gondolas”, the official said in an email. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/technology/heady-days-use-of-drones-to-detect-defects-on-hdb-blocks-takes-10599070 Edited August 10, 2018 by StreetFight3r ↡ Advertisement

If every little thing also cannot due to what invasion of privacy, then things will never get done already. What the authorities could do is that, they could send out mailer and or paste notice on lift landing to inform residents on which date and around what time they will be flying drones up to the canopy to check for building cracks (for example). Then residents will get notified and they will have time to know what to do. Like keey windows closed, pull up the curtain and or go out of house, so no one at house and etc. Like this things can get done in more efficient way and yet will not compromise too much of privacy. Setting up gondola and or scaffolding vs use drone to inspect. The latter will be far more efficient and cost savings. Victor68 Turbocharged August 10, 2018 Share August 10, 2018 Embracing technology is good if it brings benefits to life. However, many of such 'innovations' are gimmicks that tap on incentives/grants from taxpayers money. We must be prudent is spending such money. More importantly, don't be guinea pigs to the west where to dump everything on us. Many of our buildings are designed by renowned oversee designers that couldn't a damn about maintenance. We also introduced materials that were not proven. The recent fire to the the facade is a classic example.
