Car with best real world Fuel Consumption

Last time my ex-colleague told me after 5yr (New car, from 0yr on-wards), the batt sure need to change (just like normal car batt, change every 2yr, Hybrid is 5yr). The cost of a new batt range frm $5k - 10k. He actually say "Bro, hybrid bat jhap-chiang (10k) ok!", but heard from most ppl is 5k-10k la.

Myself nvr drive Hybrid before so true or nt, I can't be sure. However, since this is wat I heard frm most ppl, I think really need to consider. Mayb some ppl here in MCF can advise on the batt life and cost for hybrid bah. Or mayb u can ask some Prius Taxi Drivers.. gd luck  [;)]

That's what it's like in the real world. Nothing is ideal/perfect. There are bound to be pros and cons on the ownership of any hybrid car. Other than the petrol engine there's the additional electric motor, battery pack and the management system that do the charging. Ppl's concern has always been on the battery pack alone. The components of the charging system have that possibility they will fail too and it's not cheap to replace when out of warranty. The more additional parts car makers put into the car the more it will cost on repairs for the owners. That's why you get to enjoy both the pros and the cons.

A car is a car. Actually the more simple it is the better. And dan ppl start to demand more things like safety, efficiency and dunno what that car makers put more and more weight on the car. If you want an efficient car. A small car with a small engine will be enough to do the job. A hybrid car is like you are mostly buying technology and not really buying a car.

Turbocharged

i remember my old hatch suzuki swift could do 14km/L and that was 15 years ago. It was a small, 3 cylinders 900cc, light car.

your best bet today would be honda jazz.

Agreed.

Honda Jazz has pretty good fuel economy and is healthy to the wallet.

10 yrs warranty on battery..... what about the other associated components of the hybrid like the transformer, power control modules, electrical motors etc etc....

You can buy hybrids from Toyota where they give 10 years warranty on the battery.

Also depends on how heavy footer u are. I m getting 14km/l on my ride while someone else is getting 18km/l or more

What car are you drive? Avante? I can't even reach 13km/l.

Oh ok. My bad. I was searching for the keyword "budget" not "price". LoL...

That budget leaves you with the typical Toyota/Honda hybrids hatchbacks. AD or PI? Cos if PI you will have another choice from Honda Shuttle hybrid. A bit more interior space compared to other hybrid hatchbacks.

2nd hand cars depreciation more dan new car....might as well go for new.

Honda Shuttle hybrid. Okay thanks uncle I go found out.

price of 2nd hand cars more attractive but only worry the condition.

Choices of brand new cars –

You can choose to spend over $100K on a hybrid or economical fuel sipper, or get a Hyundai Elantra at $74K or Mitsubishi Attrage at $64K, and save $30K to $40K. This more than suffices to cover the slightly higher fuel consumption for the Elantra.

The Attrage returns an amazing 26km/l - https://www.torque.com.sg/news/mitsubishi-attrage-fuel-efficiency-challenge/

Remember - the higher the car price, the higher the loan interest payable.

Good point. my target still below 100k if possible.

I tried Elantra b4, better feel better than my Avante and looks really nice. I think nicer than Corolla. Hyundai really improve a lot. But the car like very heavy boh power. The Avante at least feel faster in pickup. I also worry the FC like my Avante. petrol price keeup going up 9 years enough liao.

Attrage too small. Sometime my barang quite long not sure the boot can fit.

Looks like hybrid have hidden cost... haiz… I dunwant tech. I want simple car with good FC.

Actually BMW has 0 FC.

If I can BMW I don't even need to post this topic! Next minute you tell me move house..haha

But too bad, got passenger and he cannot take BMW, plus the barang barang...so no choice need a car.

Haiz. lifestyle change.

If Thread starter wants an economical car that is fuel efficient - diesel might be the way to go !

That's what I think too. But recently got all the carbon tax and VES. Start july right? I think too late liao… wrong timing.

Anyway thanks for reminding me about diesel cars.

Jazz may be too small.  I understand that Honda City has good fuel consumption too.  Check out the Honda City thread.

actually Jazz quite okay. but FC really can hit better than 16km/l normal 50 50 driving?

Thanks good bros here:

so far I shortlisting these cars:

- Honda Vezel Hybrid

- Honda Shuttle Hybrid

- Honda Jazz

- Diesel car - which one?

- Toyota Sienta Hybrid (my colleague recommend)

- Hyundai i30 (my colleague recommend)

Anymore suggestion is welcome! :D

Hybrid's advantage is when driving at city, lots of stop/start, more jam more save compare to petrol cars.

VES1.0 ald killed lots of diesel car

the new elentra power is decent in 1.6 cars, better than the same engine used in K3. It's worth for money if u dun mind the plastic interior.

@Cantina,

Looks like it's down to either the Hyundai Accent 1.4 @ $69K or Honda Jazz 1.3 @ $75K.

Jazz and Elantra are practically selling at the same price, but you get significantly  more space & metal  on the Elantra. And a saloon is safer in event of  a rear collission.

But if fuel economy is your criteria, then go for Jazz or Accent.

Hmm if like that can also consider Shuttle petrol liao...that is if you dun mind PI la. Now I see no-frills version going for less than 78k. And you get decent fc (should be better than elantra) and glorious boot space for your barang barang. 1.5litre 130bhp, shouldn't lose to Avante.

But hmm think prices will go up in a few day due to VES 2.0.

Would you like to consider Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid?  I'm getting around 25km/l for about 50-50 city/highway driving.
