China can fight a prolonged trade war but if production starts to move back to the US or other countries as Trump had intended, China would have lost half the battle.

 

But this war may be good for China in the long term, too yaya papaya in recent years, haven't arrived and already behaving like a big bully, imagine what will happen when they did.

think why production is in china you will know why not in USA or another country. buying from another source is easy but production is another story. 

 

in today trade, it is never 1 way but just majority come from where. once you act against the natural course, the result is very obvious. in a war, there in winner but who suffers more.

That is true. Global supply chain.

 

But 25% can cover for a lot of inefficiency and cost. Long run, it just makes you uncompetitive. In theory.

China export is about 20% of GDP, US - 12%. Currently US has the upper hand, and Europe being white, will (or already starting to) side with US. Many countries are looking forward for production to move from China to them. US consumers won't care if the iphone or shirt is madde in China or Vietnam.

 

Impose tariffs on US Soya beans? What happened is Brazil (or other countries) exports more of theirs to China (at higher prices of course) while importing American soya beans (cheaper now) to meet domestic demands.

 

FTA with UK post Brexit? What's there for UK to export except Financial Services and a few Rolls Royce's? Of course we know what China can export to UK - everything other than planes!

There are already people blaming Xi for abandoning Deng's strategy of growing strong quietly and causing current situation.

I think your comment is quite valid.

 

The growing China was relatively quiet on all fronts, quietly growing their economy. When outside wars or conflicts started, at most, China issue statements saying "we are concerned, we hope, all parties to practice restraints bla bla..."

 

A few years back, they have started to be more assertive, more demanding and flexed their muscles into foreign countries. Some smaller, poorer countries are paying the prices now for trusting tiongs too much, example, Sri Lanka. South China Sea is another one.. History has to be respected but, claiming almost all of the sea in South China Sea based on an old map is a hard sell. Some disputed sea are right infront of countries thousands of miles FROM China!

 

Having said that, US is also no Saint. Now, with Trump, even more unpredictable... He might be seen by some at home to be doing the right thing for America but, the cost is US is losing credibility and it is still way too early to know if Trump is, or, has been right.

 

As for China, being 'suddenly rich" doesn't do them any good if they are seen as the aggressors in Asia and "always with hidden agendas".

 

We just have to learn how to deal with both these 2 countries in a smarter way than before, start by saying and not saying the "right" thing that could force us into a corner. We are an open economy and we need friends and stay neutral.

as much china goods stuck also,

lose money to sell to USA  now.

complete their supply chain, not many countries have such capability and ability. end of the day, could be US itself will suffer

from this trade war.

 

the land cost in the US is no higher than china but is their labour law and regulation and the strong union that is the killing part.

 

the mean objective of the trade war is to delay china from growing, so that US can continue his big brother position to suck

dry those developing countries.

Very soon the Chinese are going (if they have not by now) to voluntarily boycott American products and services as China paints itself as the victim of blackmail and unjust actions by Trump, The mafia Godfather.

And also china is the top 2 largest market by demand and purchasing power. Too lucrative to stay away away from china

In trade war like this, which side are we standing. Trump side or China side?

Both side lose we lose

 

But i think china lose we got more impact to absorb as GLCs have invested alot in china. USA lose will also affect global economy.

 

This trade war is nothing but childish play between two giant and we are like small players that is squeezed in between. Trump have nothing to lose as long as he got what he want
