Err..

USA is the world's top buyer which is why there's trade deficits with most countries. They buy more than they sell.

Imagine this is after they've sold big ticket items i.e. Boeing planes, or like you said weapons from the likes of Lockheed Martin, Northrup etc.

Countries like China, Japan instead of buying goods and services from the US, they buy US treasury bonds to keep the trade going. They also buy assets such as US property which do not help keep the economy active.

When the US stop buying, where to sell all the manufactured goods ? This is why China needs to grow their own consumer economy. But Chinese being Chinese are more interested in speculative real estate "investment".

On the other hand, all the manufacturing depends a lot on US (and Europe or Japan) innovation and technology, from chips to engines to high tech material engineering to advanced software.

Before the Asian Financial Crisis during the Clinton administration, the world's factory was South East Asia. Remember the years Singapore was at the centre of electronics trade ? When Clinton brought down Indonesia and took the rest of SEA with it, the world's factory shifted to China. Clinton also approved China's most favored nation status for 3rd world countries. China officially joined WTO in 2001.

One of the many disputes now is that as a member of WTO, China has not open up it's market on many fronts. Typically foreign companies are required to go into joint venture which requires technology transfer. Of course this is good for China, or any country including SG if we need to grow our own talents and know how. But does it comply with WTO or the rights of other countries ? Then some people may also notice there's usually no blocking of China websites in most countries, but a lot of foreign websites are blocked in China, from commercial to media etc. not porn or political sites.

So you are renting and earning big money subletting HDB flats on AirBNB but continue to take HDB loan and HDB grant. Sounds familiar?

Just some questions to consider.

both side feeling the heat.

just the start nia.

trump now trying to pull europe to US  side,

will succeed sooner or later.

if any 1 in china think europe will side with china just because trump is crazy, they are very wrong.

trump is trying tricks with russia now,

alot depend on it.

and the iran issue,

now china is benifiting from iran oil while others is pulling out.

wat happen if US and iran cannot come to agreement,

will US really stop iran oil export?

and the most important key factor is the ppl/citizen,

as long as the ppl can bear the hardship and support the government, they will win .

In China, they say no Facebook no Google no uncensored Internet, the citizens grumble but life goes on. No alternate government to chose.

The leadership tell the people to jump at same time, the whole world will feel the tremor.

Google is an important resource for research. That's why despite however 厲害 they can boast about Aliababa and 40 thieves, Google is still used by research labs and universities in China. I'm sure DPRK gives Google access to the limited elites and scientists too.

I had educated my PRC colleague on the important of 谷歌。

I also first thought if their people at most go back and bear some hardship which to them is nothing, but not so simple actually. Many projects will be put on hold and the economy will be badly affected.

In the US, the president needs to answer to the people. The midterm elections will be coming up soon, which will be closely watched and see if GOP will be given the kick in the butt.

In CN, the president does whatever he likes, full grip of the media, internet, everything except his ownself conflicts from within ownself friends. The people will not give a sh*t except continue to transfer more wealth out to HK, SG, US, EU, AU, within their own means and restrictions.

My American friends are telling me there is wide spread support for Trump's trade war with China.

China has more to lose but face is more important than money?

Think a quick solution won't be forthcoming, both sides need to see some pains in order to compromise and reach an agreement.

The Americans are divided between those affected (e.g. farmers) and those not affected, the question is how much. The midterm elections will be a litmus test.

China has only one thing important, "stability".

Mid term is November? By the time, all the tariff would have been imposed. I heard most Americans are not affected yet but once they have to pay more for everything from cars to phones to furnitures (not to mention intermediary products for assembly in the States), they might think twice.

What is your view? Will there be a deal soon or pain is coming soon?

No deal one... China would lose face. 中国不是吓大的!so they claimed.

This is possibly the beginning of the new cold war. Hopefully we will gain from both sides!
