Beregond Supersonic May 14, 2019 Share May 14, 2019 The US importer die die must buy from one seller ? Got happy ending ? Adidas and Nike are making shoes in Vietnam, no tariffs. very true, but that would be under 'impact of the tariffs'. in fact its already happening some time ago. 1 example i mention last time, china tyres make in thailand to sell in US. ↡ Advertisement
Kusje Supersonic May 14, 2019 Share May 14, 2019 The US importer die die must buy from one seller ? Got happy ending ? Adidas and Nike are making shoes in Vietnam, no tariffs. Short term gotta keep buying. Pain will be shared between buyer and seller. But if tariffs are expected to last for the long term, then production will start to move to other countries. In such a case, china gets nothing, US will pay more for their products. Vietnam, PH and Myanmar gets a boost. US domestic producers also gets a slight boost as there will always be concerns that tariffs would be applied on viet, ph, etc.
Albeniz Turbocharged May 14, 2019 Share May 14, 2019 For more than 10 years, consumer products have been manufactured and sold cheaply that many people in the world adopt a “use-and—throw” mentality. Now with this trade war, goods will not be as cheap as before. Would that promote stronger recycling notion among the people? Hopefully in terms of resource sustainability, the trade war can bring about a positive impact, resulting in a greener Earth.

Jamesc Hypersonic May 14, 2019 Share May 14, 2019 (edited) 30 years ago China had the bicycles and we had the cars. Now we have the bicycles and China have the cars. Today Americans drive Buicks and China have the sweat shops. In 10 years China will drive the Buicks and America will have the sweat shops. Lala81 Hypersonic May 14, 2019 Share May 14, 2019 as i said...difficult but not impossible which country or combination of countries can pick up the slack if 195 factories in china shut? it would be a supply chain nightmare though I agree. Hahaha just see the selection of items u can buy on taobao and actually damn a lot of the factories r located in guangzhou itself.

UNLESS china can hike their selling price by 33% to cover the the 25% tariffs. Anything less than a 33% price increase is net gain for US, no pain at all. It is actually obvious from the first round of tariffs where the market reacted badly for China and barely anything for USA. It is a foregone conclusion China will lose at least short term in a trade war. Prices for some things might rise in USA but it will be much less than the amount of money they collect from the tariffs. Of course if china retaliates, it is a different matter but how much can they retaliate. Edited May 14, 2019 by Wind30
Somewhat1975 6th Gear May 14, 2019 Share May 14, 2019 (edited) Trump or in general US politic nowadays can be very unpredictable. Imagine you have moved your production line out of China, and trump or the next president suddenly decides to cease fire with China or charge the same tariff to your new host country...... This kind of uncertainty is a nightmare for international supply chain. Edited May 14, 2019 by Somewhat1975

Cos recycle doesn't really work. If goods cost more dear, the lower economic class will find it harder to make a living. When u r facing financial stress, your decisions will become more self centered. Cos u r just looking to survive. Similarly why slums tend to develop in low income neighborhoods. Cos they can't see the bigger picture in keeping common spaces tidy or free of graffiti. Definitely u won't give much thought to such global issues. Jamesc Hypersonic May 14, 2019 Share May 14, 2019 (edited) They own 1.2 trillion in us treasuries alone yeah. China own 1.2 trillion in US T bills. So who has the power - US or China? Firstly I don't how many million is a trillion but it really doesn't matter. If this question was asked in 1967 then the power is with China Since this question is asked in 2019 then its US that has the power. In 1968 Nixon took the US dollar off the gold standard. So if in 1967 China converted their 1.2 trillion of T bills into 1.2 trillion in US dollars and went to the Federal Reserve and presented the 1.2 trillion to them they would have to give the Chinese 1.2 trillion dollars worth of gold. In 1968 Nixon took the US dollar off the gold standard and so in 2019 if China took their 1.2 trillion of US dollars to the Fed the Fed don't have to give them even 1 cent of gold. Its Iike someone owe you $100 and they wrote an I owe U $100 on a piece of toilet paper and you never saw the guy again at least you can use the toilet paper. The 1.2 trillion the Chinese own they can stop buying hell money and burn for their ancestors and just burn the 1.2 trillion USD. The best thing for the US is when China present their T bills for conversion to USD the US just have switch on the printers and print 1.2 trillion USD. I have a colour printer at home and I can print any currency you like. Is it worth anything? Its not worth anything just like USD is also not worth anything. US currency is called a Fiat currency because like the old rusty and broken down car its junk. Like the licence plate China will one day say Oh Fack die die die T bills. US currency is called a Fiat currency because like the old rusty and broken down car its junk. Like the licence plate China will one day say Oh Fack die die die T bills. U r right. Its not a liquid asset at the amounts they own and the cash they have on hand.To move in any big way, they would risk devaluation of their own investment. Lose lose situation. And the dollar will weaken which may play into trumps hands. They can only cutback the buying of t bills which they have done. Well China poorer or richer will still be around. So will the USA. So both have to live with each other heh. A lot of people are saying Donald Trump started all these. Actually, Obama was already trying to address it but he was too weak. He could talk very diplomatically, but could not get things done. It would be miscalculation to think it is only a Republican issue. The political divide in D.C. is more to do with domestic policy than foreign policy.Yes. Absolutely. I did mention before. Being tough on China is bipartisan. The only difference between the two sides and individuals is how tough and how far u want to go. So trump actually is supported by both sides. So this won't be a short affair.
