In terms of cleanliness, public civility, customer service, courtesy and digital adoption, many cities in China have over taken Singapore by leaps and bounds. And we are such a small country.

Just some examples:

-We still have people clinging onto cash, and when the government introduced certain cashless initiatives, people complained here and there that cash is king. Spare a thought for old people etc.

- I recall dining at a food court years ago in Shanghai, the tables were immediately sanitized after each usage by cleaners before they allowed you to use. Even in small street restaurants now, many of them have UV disinfectants for the cutleries. These are non existent in coffee shop stalls. Many hands literally mingled thru the utensils at food courts. In some cities, their buses and trains are sanitised daily. I don't think MRT or SBS does that.

- Customer service are so courteous, speedy and efficient at most touch points nowadays in China. Didi, food delivery, shopping malls etc. Compared to the ones in Singapore, its a far cry.

Yes.  Fully agreed.

I have be visiting Shanghai yearly for the the past almost 30yrs. Only the 3yrs Covid never visit

I see through the changes in the city since 1997.

For those still think China is a outdated and under developed country,  they should make a visit.

Don't forget too many EVs (maybe 30-50% on the roads in Shanghai). Anytime can burst into flame. Very dangerous.... Better don't go!

Sorry to hijack your thread.

Will be going to GZ for a short trip in April (first time). At the risk of being watched/ detained by CCP, I am risking my life for food Cantonese food.

Those who know the place well, please share your favorite POI and must eat list.  I have made 1 dinner reservation at Lai Heen (recommended by a friend) but happy to eat at roadside too if food is good.

Also, what eSim would you guys recommend to buy? I used Klook the last time for my Shanghai trip (think it is a Hong Kong eSim) and the download speed was just crappy.

Thanks for sharing. Simba doesn't work for me in SG, their local 5G network is not great.

Not going to add a line just for an upcoming China trip.

Personally tested very high speed and coverage for Xiamen. About S$1/GB. Just buy and PM the seller to send the QR code to your email. You have upto 3 or 6 months to activate and use. The buyer very responsive, with QR code in my email twice within 1hr during normal support hour. The Simba $12 plan got 7GB of international roaming data but still more ex than this unless you need the other features like local data or additional line for Whatsapp for example.
