AC was not cold a few days back so went to a car ac shop near my workplace. Mechanic checked and said ac gas not enough and need to top up. However he also told me that it’s usually a leakage somewhere as car do not need to top up ac gas at all. Ask me to monitor. Is what he said true on the car do not need to top up ac gas at all if there is no leak?

will be good that can repair compressor as well or get a 2nd hand compressor for my lancer glx

If there is no leak,  there should not be a need to top up.

I think the issue is whether it is a slow or fast leak.

My concern is leak due to wear and tear when the vehicle gets older when the seals degrade.

Yeah I also read that the ac is close loop, shouldn’t need to top up.

Fridges are 100% closed as the compressor is hermetically sealed.

Home aircon is close to 100% as there are still joints. In a car for sure there are more joints and vibration causing a little more leaks over the years.

So for a car Aircon over a long period of time the Aircon gas does get a little depleted.

 

It depends on how old your car is. So it’s normal for an old car to have the gas depleted.

So for a car Aircon over a long period of time the Aircon gas does get a little depleted.

 

It depends on how old your car is. So itâs normal for an old car to have the gas depleted.

seems Likely a leak then. Monitor how long it takes for it to become warm again. Next step will be to go back and inject a dye to see where the leak is. Edited by Mkl22

Thanks for the advice. If near future ac not cold then will have to find an ac shop to solve the leak problem.

The common place where the refrigerant leaks is at the fan coil, the one under the dash.

Mine leaked when the car was about 9 years old. Replaced the coil and it functions normally again.

Yes it’s true.

 

No need to top up at all.

 

Either the cooling coil or condenser.

My experience with a/c gas leak is the evaporator coil.

Bcuz that place is often wet due to the a/c hot/cold.

The wetness eventually corrode the coil and pipes and then it leaked.

But if 2 years 7 months should still be under warranty.

Will try my luck with AD as I never go back to do servicing with them after the 10K.
