Everytime when i see those people in the gym carrying super heavy weights and pushing themselves, i also scare. Lol.

There was once saw one guy swinging a kettle bell weight from left hand to right hand continuously, so worry wait he slipped catching the kettlebell and ended threw it on others people. 😅

As long as you eat it for the taste, then go ahead.

Tragic accidents, but I feel sometimes like the first case is due to misuse of equipment and not setting the safety stops. Safety stops are especially important when lifting close to our individual max limits.

Another point is that unless we are professional athlete making a living or career out of lifting, don't push too much too fast, so to speak. Go easy, take your time to build up. Same advice applies for lao uncles gymming [laugh]

Using Gemini 2.5 (experimental) to review, highlight key points, make conclusion for people into health, and comment on the speaker.

Okay, here's a review of the "Butter VS. Seed Oils" video based on the transcript provided:

Video Review: "Butter VS. Seed Oils: Which is Worse for Your Health?"

Key Points:

  • The video compares butter (rich in saturated fat) to plant-based oils (often called 'seed oils', rich in polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats) regarding their impact on mortality, cardiovascular disease, and cancer.
  • It focuses heavily on a large observational study involving over 200,000 people followed for more than 30 years.
  • The study reportedly found that higher butter consumption was associated with a 15% increased risk of overall mortality and also increased cancer mortality risk. The link to cardiovascular mortality risk did not reach statistical significance.
  • Conversely, higher intake of plant oils (including soybean, canola, olive oil) was associated with a 16% decreased risk of overall mortality, a 12% decreased risk of cancer mortality, and a decreased risk of cardiovascular mortality.
  • Substituting 10 grams of butter daily with an equivalent amount of plant oil was associated with a 17% lower risk of total and cancer mortality.
  • These findings were generally consistent even when olive oil was excluded from the plant oil category, although corn oil showed a small, non-statistically significant increased risk in the final analysis model.
  • The speaker uses this human outcome data to argue against common criticisms of seed oils derived from mechanistic data or animal studies.

Fact Check:

  • Study Existence & Findings: The video accurately describes a large, long-term cohort study, likely involving participants from the Nurses' Health Study and Health Professionals Follow-up Study, conducted by researchers affiliated with institutions like Harvard. Search results confirm the existence of such a study with similar findings published recently (around March 2025).
  • Reported Risks: The specific risk percentages cited in the video (e.g., ~15% increased mortality risk for high butter intake, ~16% decreased risk for high plant oil intake, 17% decreased risk for substitution) align closely with those reported in summaries of the study found via search.
  • Specific Oils & Outcomes: The distinctions made regarding different oils (olive, corn, canola, soybean) and outcomes (total mortality, cancer, CVD) are consistent with the details presented in the video and corroborated by external search results.
  • Adjustments: The speaker correctly notes that such studies statistically adjust for numerous confounding factors (like smoking, BMI, physical activity, overall diet quality, etc.) to isolate the potential effects of the fats being studied.

Conclusion for Longevity:

Based on the evidence presented in this video:

  • Favor Plant Oils: The large observational study discussed suggests that consuming plant-based oils (like olive, soybean, canola) instead of butter is associated with a lower risk of premature death, particularly from cancer.
  • Butter Association: Higher butter intake was linked to increased mortality risk.
  • Substitution Benefit: Even replacing a small amount of butter (less than a tablespoon daily) with plant oils showed a significant association with reduced mortality risk.

Comment on the Speaker (Layne Norton PhD):

The speaker, Layne Norton PhD, presents a data-driven argument, focusing heavily on the results of a large human epidemiological study. He directly addresses and refutes common arguments against seed oils, often adopting a somewhat confrontational tone towards those viewpoints. His approach prioritizes large-scale human outcome data over mechanistic or animal studies when assessing dietary impacts on health. He also mentions his own research review service during the video.

Yes the 3 cases were mainly safety lapses.

Proper set up of safety catch on universal machine is very important if working out alone without spotter.

Even with spotter, the other 2 cases were caused by pushing beyond individual limits and spotter ability to support.

For gym, because I am doing more  maintaining fitness, I won't do those super heavy one rep type of weights.

Will choose weights that I really need to squeeze the last ounce of strength on the 10th reps of the 3rd sets.

Maybe I should also take the PCN and restart my outdoor cycling.

Now prefer to ride indoor, no need wash helmet and and bike after rides😅 and less reckless drivers risk.... Saw those reckless drivers videos scare me to ride on our road.... TMCR also very dusty when I last rode it few months back..

My grandpa and my dad used to ride such bikes too.

My grandpa still have many kids...🤣
