It's wayang propaganda initative to raise fares.

Looking back at shitty times' and PAP's history, this is their modus operandi.

SMRT Trains posts S$86m loss as ridership declines and maintenance costs rise

Read fare formula 1st before

https://www.ptc.gov.sg/newsroom/news-releases/newsroom-view?news=2018-fare-formula-review-and-enhanced-transfer-rules-to-adapt-to-changing-public-transport-landscape

Mind you, there was 3 downward fare revision in past years.

Why ridership declines? It is due to passengers lose their confidence on their train reliability? Thought maintenance is part of the operation cost of what a train operator should do?

https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/smrt-trains-posts-loss-of-86m-in-fy2018

Meanwhile, revenue dipped by 6 per cent, falling from $791 million to $743 million. This was due to lower average fares arising from a fare reduction exercise, as well as a 2 per cent drop in total ridership on SMRT's network, from 768 million to 753 million.

Last year, the North-South and East-West lines saw a drop in ridership, and experts have said this could be due to the opening of the Downtown Line 3 last October, which offered commuters alternative travel routes to the eastern part of Singapore.

The growing popularity of private-hire car services and the service disruptions on the North-South Line, due to teething issues from the implementation of the new signalling system, were also cited as factors why fewer commuters took the train.

Bro correct me if Im wrong but I think those revisions were not outright downward 'revisions', as in they took the suspicious forms of rewarding people to set off for work early by lowering fares only for folks clocking thru the gantry by 645am or something lidat...any across the board drop in fares were limited.

If there are any upcoming increases in fares, I think it will be across the board type.

This BS they are dishing out is really something else. Why not show what the commuters lost in terms of time and cost on alternative transport every time the trains fail? Put that together and show ppl what figure pops up. The economic impact every time the trains fail is even higher. Want to show show the public the entire picture. Why only show smrt's side of losses? Only their loss matters? Commuters' losses not important lah hor? What BS.

They will have to raise fares becoz water & electricity hike is kicking in. The trains run on electricity and they are thirsty talking all that BS, gotto drink more water. LoL...

I am sure all companies ( SME or MNC ) evny such " loss-money = can increase price " practice.

Of course, the insurance companies are already practicing the same thing.

For public transport, there is fare formula available in PTC webby.

For insurance, it could be across the board increase or selective increase.

Haha brudder..if they can change the most sacred laws known as the constitution to allow Ms Halimah to take over as president..Im sure such a simple formula can be 'rectified' in no time to suit whatever agenda they have... [laugh]

When was the last time the formula was changed?

Any revision of fare will affect both operators.

To recover this lost, what's the magnitude of upward revision?

The only reason constitution was changed due to lack of opposition MPs.

finally this thread is alive. good thing that breakdowns are not so often nowadays.

Don't say that. Later they pat their own backs and say reliability is back. They will jinx it and something major will happen. Better not.
