Jwee85 5th Gear April 19, 2018 Share April 19, 2018 (edited) Just want to confirm this myth once and for all. There are TOO much confusion over this issue till today for car. Let's not talk about motorcycle plate, as that is really going to messed up the LTA Vs Inspectors opinion further. Lets keep to car plate in this thread. Is sticker type licence plate legal and can pass LTA inspection or the overly enthusiastic inspectors at test centers? Background. The stickers wordings size and thickness and spacing strictly follows LTA standards. Instead of pasting it on a metal plate and frame, it is directly pasted onto the same location where the licence plate is design to be by car manufacturer. That means the sticker is pasted onto the front plastic bumper where the usual metal licence plates are expected to be, same for the rear metal boot licence plate placement location. What is your opinion? All along I believe it is fully legal. Untill I read this article on sgcarmart. http://www.sgcarmart.com/news/writeup.php?AID=339 3. Don't put yourself in a sticky situationThe LTA does not allow vehicle owners to attach sticker-type car plates to their vehicles in place of the standard ones made out of aluminium or acrylic. Anyone from LTA can once and for all confirm this matter? Edited April 19, 2018 by Jwee85 ↡ Advertisement

Vratenza Supersonic April 19, 2018 Share April 19, 2018 (edited) I wonder what is this strange obsession with trying to stand out with a unique licence plate? I always wish my number plate is as dull and non eye catching as possible. Best if those overhead bridge or bushes snipers have problem taking a clear shot. Nzy Twincharged April 19, 2018 Share April 19, 2018 Even if allowed, these sticker number plates just cause more trouble. One of my friend's car got towed by LTA cuz they saw his sticker license plate and stopped him. But after he told them his license plate followed the font and size required by LTA, they officer say he suspect got other mods and need to impound the vehicle..

Anyone from LTA can once and for all confirm this matter? Not from LTA but i just went for my car inspection , car with sticker VIN pasted directly onto my bumper . Was told no issues except cannot just paste the numbers directly onto the bumper , needs to paste on a black background base sticker then can . Even though my car is black in colour , still need to have a black base sticker . Hope that helps . Just the same as why you buy or add on AMG line kits to your car cos you think that makes your ride looks sleeker or nicer . Some thinks that the VIN plate disrupt the front look of their rides , thus they try to do something about it .

I have seen someone install retractable license plate for the front. Dunno can do for the back or not. But then the bumper also must have space for the plate to fold back. Mkl22 Supersonic April 19, 2018 Share April 19, 2018 (edited) Based on my vague memory of the road traffic statutes. Stickers are ok but must be stuck on a flat surface with the letter according to the specs. The sticker cannot be stuck on a non flat surface like a curved bumper. In the end if a flat surface is needed, then why not just use an acrylic plate or metal plate. At least it should last for 10years. Waste money to hiow license plate for what?
