Is 205/55/R17 tires suitable for 1.6 liter Jap sedan car?

Currently my Jap sedan (Nissan Slyphy) car is on stock 195/60/r16.  

 

Other than petrol increase, will there be any other impact if I will change to the above R17 rim & tires?

of course you can,

besides FC increase, you will gain better handling and cornering,

if the R17 tyer diameter is different from your original one, you will get Odometer and mileage error,

your pick-up will be must slower causing you more fc.

Is only for nice as your current tyres are good enough for this model of your car.

- higher torque steer for high-torque FWD cars (tendency to shift sideways, upon initial hard acceleration from stop, on wet roads) ... won’t usually get this in B&B cars

- higher aquaplaning tendency (for same tyre thread design)

- costlier tyre changes

- slightly higher FC

 

- better turn in and cornering

- shorter braking distance

 

Most WRC cars go on smaller diameter wheels and are shod with narrower tyres, to circumvent many of the said limitations on the slippery mud tracks.

Actually this 205/55/R17 is an odd size, i know cos I’m using this size. Maybe better to get a more common size 17in instead.

205/50/17 is a stock size for b17 sylphy. So you are looking at 1 size profile up. Should be able to fit if stock suspension and height. I had used 215/50/17 before no issues

any changes come with a price .

If I am worry , I will stick to same original size but go for better Quality wheels and Tires (99% improvement)

UPsize advantages depends on what the Quality and size you are getting.

your 195/60/16 is already upsize from base model 195/65/15 , so don't see the need for go 17inch ,if you still go 17 take 205/50/17 closest conversion but not common size here (still available)

Don't have to worry to much about the Speedo reading so long is not too far out from Stock.

u cannot see which size comfty. must see wat car u driving,  wat is your orginal size,

then u convert over. 

after u convert, the over all diameter of the old and new size should be +- 3%

 

how wide your 17'             215, 225,235,245

should depend on your rim width, 7 x 7,7.5, 8 , 8.5 etc

 

like honda crv orginal size ( old crv ) is 225.65.17

this size very comfty, cos 65 profile very thick .

 

but u cannot put into for example a civic , cos diameter too big , 

 

and 205.55.17 is a very odd size,

u gonna have problem replacing it next time

i doubt the shop got any suitable rims for it also .

dun buy it cos they offer cheap, high chance they trying to clear stock

Need to know what is the stock rim size and tyre profile provided, per manufacturerâs design.

 

Letâs just say (using unverified numbers here):

Stock BMW 3-er comes with 16â wheels and profile-65 tyres

Stock VW Vento comes with 15â wheels and profile-55 tyres

 

If both are upgraded to 17â, the 3-er will need to be shod with (say) profile-55 tyres ... still deemed comfortable enuf.

 

The Vento may need to go down to (say) profile-40 tyres ... which will be very crashy indeed! Not comfortable at all ðð¼

i switched from 215/60/16 to 225/45/18 to 245/40/18 for my mondeo.

 

FC - did increase for sure. 

Acceleration - didnt feel any slower or maybe it's slower but not significant to me (i didnt measure it)

Comfort - can feel more bumps on the road but not unbearable

grip - a lot better, feel  more confident when cornering

looks - better, at least for me

( assume u dun buy any funny size rim)

or more accurate 17 x 7.5

Go for 17x7.5. Then use 225/45/17 tyres. Great variety of tyres to choose from and cheap.

If you emphasize looks, go for 18 inch. 17 is best for balance between comfort, perfo and looks.

 

I am driving same car as you, B17. Rims now are 17x7.5, offset +40.

Car is lowered by 2 fingers, no problem.
