ChaosMyth 5th Gear April 5, 2018 Share April 5, 2018 (edited) MANILA - The resort island of Boracay will be closed to tourists for six months from April 26 to fix sewage and environment-related problems that have led President Rodrigo Duterte to describe it as a "cesspool". Mr Duterte approved the recommendation by three government agencies to shut down Boracay, his spokesman Harry Roque told reporters late on Wednesday (April 4). The go-ahead was given despite pleas to carry out the shutdown in phases and to limit its scope. http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/se-asia/philippines-to-close-boracay-to-tourists-for-six-months-from-april-26 Take note for those who are planning your vacations! Lala81 Hypersonic April 5, 2018 Share April 5, 2018 Dunno how does it solve the problem. They can build a brand new sewage system and connect these buildings to it in 6 months? It's like punishing the operators with proper sanitation...

Bacteria83 Turbocharged April 5, 2018 Share April 5, 2018 Local over there will struggle big time. No tourism to support the island economic. Feel for them. Gov could have step in much earlier, and maybe redevelopment in phrases will be possible.

Hydrocarbon Turbocharged April 6, 2018 Share April 6, 2018 Some beach in Thailand is also being closed to tourist for a few months, IIRC. Thankfully, I'm too broke to go for any vacation for the next 6 months, so, there's a bright side to having no money.
