Yes u can request LTA to retain the old car plate number while waiting for the new car to arrive. Effective for 1 year. But u need to pay 1.3k first. After your agent register with your retain number, LTA will refund u 1.2k via cheque with 3 month. Just did that last year.

Cheer.

Actually if one has an old car not sold yet, then there is no need to use the new plate as there is a one year deadline for it to be used before an extension fee is needed.

Just wait for new car to arrive and tell your SE that you have a plate on hand. All your SE needs is the bid result letter and se will be able to register that new plate on the new car.

This is not a good time to bid for new nos.

More COEs= more people buying new cars= more people bidding for nos= higher premiums.

When COE nos were low many good double digit nos went unbidded. 60% of the single and double digit nos are won by 2-3 main dealers trading in such nos.

No lah, i was actually bidding just to satisfy myself that there really are buyers above 15k. Itchy backside. [laugh] Kinda glad I was not successful. I already have a 10 year old bidded double digit number.

Well I know of someone who bidded 3-digit numbers for both his cars - think if I am not wrong one of them is 383 and the other is 338 or something like that.  His wife said they got them for like $10k each.

So for 2-digit numbers, like 38, 28 for example, there will be siao larng out there bidding 20-25k.

338 can be got 2-3k. 38 should be about 5-6 only!

(i) Retain a vehicle registration number from his/her registered vehicle (i.e. without de-registering the vehicle):

The retention fee is $1,300.

If the retained vehicle registration number is used to register a new vehicle within the usage validity period, $1,200 will be refunded to the vehicle owner.

You cannot put the number on an existing car.... You retain the number, meaning the number cannot be used until you get a new car and put that retained number on that new car

yes you can.

Scenario 1:

Hold on to that bidded number and just pay $100 to put it on your new car.

Scenario 2:

Transfer that bidded number to your current car and pay 1.3k. When your new car arrives, retain number for $100. LTA will refund you back 1.2k if it's within stipulated time frame. I cant remember

Your scenario 2 is incorrect. you can pay to retain the number and use it on a new car and get a refund of $1.2k. The moment you used that number on your current car, it's used, it's over

Can anyone who has sold his number share his experience with me?

I am thinking of selling a number but do not know how to go about doing it, or the S.O.P.

Thank you in advance.
