This is NOT the normal Prius we saw on our road. Key differences between this PHV version and the standard Prius includes:

- Different front and rear deisgn

- Longer (105mm) and lower (20mm) than Prius

- Higher capacity batteries (8.8KWH vs 4.4KWH)

- Smaller boot space (due to larger batteries)

- Strictly a 4 seater (as additional weight will be undesirable)

- Optional solar panel roof

Datsun has a dismally bad crash test result.I was the Go that got 0 stars for NCAP (in India(!),where standards are not as strict as Europe!)

 

Safety rating is one thing, emission and FC is another. Car produced for ASEAN market generally has poorer emission parameters and will automatically be slap with a $20K VES surcharge, if it were to be sold here.

I rem it has a MPI straight 6 engine and 4AT. Very big deal in the early 80s. 

 

Back then its either V8 for big power and refinement or settle for a small weak 4 cyln... 

 

Agreed, equivalent to the modern days Lexus GS during that era. I vividly remember how luxurious was the interior (even the fabric seat feel so diff from say the Honda Accord), and the engine is silky smoooth (bench mark against other car in the same cat during period of time).

 

 

Toyota Sai is sold via PI before. Think someone posted in the rare cars thread before.

 

J100 Toyota Landcruiser, I have spotted this before in the 2000s as the Lexus LX470 in Orchard Road. It was a diplomat car, S_____CD plate.

 

There was a few Sai running on our road, but No HS so far...

 

Per the title, I am listing those cars that we don't get to drive in Singapore, thus leaving diplomat car out of the picture.

There is one version of Subaru Exiga that we didn't get in Singapore, the one that pretend to be a 7 seater SUV (which I am sure someone will be craving for it).

As our dear LTA cannot make up it mind to put the new E-Power Nissan under Electric car or Hybrid car category, these 2 model are unlikely to land on our shore anytime soon...

 

For the benefits of MCFers reading this post, E-Power vehicle by Nissan is powered purely by batteries (i.e. full EV), while the gasoline engine is used for charging the batteries, when it fall below the pre-determined level. This is unlike a conventional hybrid vehicle (e.g. Prius PHV), whereby the car can be driven by electric power and gasoline engine.

The all new 2018 / 2019 Mercedes-Benz A Class Sport Sedan LWB look very nice!      With an extended wheelbase of 2,789mm, one can expect it rear legroom to be very close to M-B C Class (2,840mm), Audi A4 (2,820mm) and BMW 3 series (2,810mm).

Nissan Sylphy Zero Emission debuts – built for China

 

 

The Nissan Sylphy Zero Emission has been unveiled at the 2018 Beijing Motor Show, and becomes the brand’s first electric car made in China for consumers in the country. The new electric vehicle will be one of 20 electrified models that Nissan plans to introduce over the next five years.

Despite its name, the Sylphy ZE is actually built upon the Leaf and shares the same 2,700 mm wheelbase with the hatchback. The design at the front is a combination of the facelifted US-market Sentra as well as the Leaf, including a distinct V-Motion grille with blue accents near the charging port. However, this is still a proper sedan in shape, with 510 litres of boot space available.

Nissan hasn’t revealed full details about the electric powertrain used here, but there is some information to be gained from the automaker’s press conference at the event. For starters, the Sylphy ZE has a 38 kWh battery, which is good for an all-electric range of 338 km following China’s standards. The unit is smaller than the Leaf’s 40 kWh unit that offers 400 km in Japan’s cycle and 378 km in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) on a single charge.

The battery is positioned under the rear seats, and powers a 107 hp (80 kW) electric motor that drives the front wheels – the Leaf has a 148 hp (110 kW) e-motor. There’s no word on the performance capabilities of the Sylphy ZE, but expect it to be utilitarian enough for driving around a city like Beijing.

No photos of the car’s interior, but given its underpinnings, we reckon it should be a blend of the standard Sylphy and the Leaf, much like its face. Nissan also notes the cabin offers ergonomic heated seats and a range connectivity options, with Nissan Intelligent Mobility being another core feature.

For now, the Sylphy ZE is a model specific to China but it could be a precursor for another global market sedan EV that might join Nissan’s fleet in the future. The Sylphy ZE will go on sale later in 2018, where more information will then be made available.

Chinese-owned German carmaker Borgward, which has been slated for a Malaysian arrival has been spotted by our reader Muhammad Najib. Seen here are the BX5 (here in white) and BX7 (black) SUVs on the back of a trailer along the PLUS highway. It was reported earlier this month that the brand will be launching two new models at the Malaysia Autoshow, which will be kicking off this weekend.

The launch at the event will also herald the duo’s arrival into the ASEAN market, where more than 100 distributors will receive their distributorship certificates, according to Malaysia Automotive Institute CEO Datuk Madani Sahari. Local partner Go Exim has plans for local, CKD assembly, and Borgward was reported in April to be considering the recently created automotive hub in Bagan Datoh, Perak as a potential site.

The BX7 is a seven-seater, mid-size SUV which was first unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, and aims to infuse rigourous German engineering, advanced technology, reliability, a distinct sporty wide body in a 4.7 metre-long form, powered by A 224 hp/300 Nm 2.0 litre turbocharged engine with a six-speed automatic transmission.

As the naming convention implies, the BX5 is a more compact five-seater, which first surfaced a year after the BX7 in Geneva. This model is 4.5 m long, powered by a 1.8 litre turbocharged mill with 190 hp and 280 Nm of torque, driving a six-speed auto gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The BX5 will feature “equipment based largely on mass-production technology,” the company said. The Malaysian debuts for the BX5 and BX7 are just around the corner; do stay tuned as we learn more.
