The reverse camera screen for Serena is too small. Can we do anything like projecting it on head unit which had large screen? Is yes, some advice on a good service workshop in Singapore which can supply and install is appreciated. Does Tan Chong do this upgrading also?

Hi,

  I am new to MycarForum, I am a Malaysian and lived in Singapore for 12years before moving to NZ. I came across this forum when I do a research on Nissan Serena EP. In NZ there is no local dealer selling any MPV new but there are plenty of people buying used import from second hand dealers, maybe for it practicality i.e. people mover. I am keen on EV for a long time but doesn't fit my pocket or my use cases e.g. range, cost and use cases.

Basically my requirements are :

1. Fun to drive .

2. Fuel consumption.

3. A passenger car.

4. A minicamper for holiday camping trip.

I seen someone on this forum commented that Serena does not have gearbox, I think there is a bit a misconception here. I believes that all hybrids and EV has transmission box, just that its design is simple, just a single ratio transmission. It seldom need to maintain but still required an oil change every 100k kilometers. I call Nissan in NZ, they do servicing for Nissan Notes and Leafs so basically that's their commendation.

I think the main reason I join this forum is that I have still have attachment to SG, enjoy chatting with Singaporean etc. As my car is due to arrive in end of February, I am interest on feedback from the Serena EP kakis if any problem or issues with Serena over 1 year of owning it? FYI, my upcoming Serena EP is Highway Star V, I think it come with ProPilot etc, the cluster dash is in Japanese :/ If anyone can share an english owner manual will be great for me :).

Cheers

Kevin

For me personally, I would go for ICE or EV. No in between.

For ICE, we need to maintain two main components, the engine and GB

For Hybrid, there are four or more??

As for the high petrol cost, I stick to diesel engine. At least its a fixed variables for now.

@l0nEr according to LTA website, the December 2022 OMV for the Serena hybrid is $29,000.00

Looks like TC motors is making around 100% margin and not passing on the VES rebate (A2 band) of $12,000 to the customer.
Wondering how much factory rebate that Nissan is to TC motors for being their dealer in Singapore?

@steveting99 hmm why 100%?
if use the website http://motorcal.co/car-arf-calculator.php,

Based on COE at 105.5k, 29k OMV and -15k CEVS rebate, i thought their cost price is around $161k?

so they making about 28k margin if u use the current selling price of 188k?
whats the best price now currently?

A2 band is now 15k rebate i believe. if they didnt pass the rebate, the cost is $175k?
btw that website still using 7% GST, should be 8% now already. Govt taking more $$$

@l0nEr , here are the numbers that I came up with.

Open Market Value (OMV) = $29,000

Additional Registration Fee (ARF) = $32,600

Excise Duty (based on 20% of OMV) = $5,800

Goods and Services Tax (GST) (8% inclusive of OMV+excise duty) = $2,784

Certificate of Entitlement (CoE for Category B as of Jan-2023) = $108,373.00

Vehicle Emissions Scheme (VES rebate for A2) = -$15,000.00

IU = $160.50

Registration fixed rate = $220.00

sub-Total = $163,937.50

Current sales price (according to TC motor's website)= $189,800.00

Dealer markup = $25,862.50

% Dealer markup based on OMV = 89%

The thing is if the CoE goes down to a more reasonable level of say $40k, the dealer markup with most likely remain the some amount of around $25k to $26k. According to TC motors website the special price of $189,800 includes $33k trade in car and $8.888k CNY discount. What if you don't have a car to trade in? Believe the sale price jumps by another $33k to be $222.8k and the dealer markup jumps to $58,862.50. That's well over 100% of OMV. Since CNY is now over, expect to pay an extra $8.888k so you're looking at about $231.6k.

Maybe I'm wrong on the trade in car value, but even then the amount that TC motors makes per sale is significant and well above 100% of OMV.

Not sure what value you're getting by paying $25k to TC motors?

@steveting99 oh i see!

yeah you are right, i forgot that the OMV is the actual cost for the dealer...

but by that logic, wouldnt it be similar for almost all dealers, if you see the calculations here. Column 22 (dealer margin) is almost always 100% of the OMV, some even 2x

https://onemotoring.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/onemotoring/Buying/Car_Cost_Update/M032-Car_Cost_Update.pdf

Actually the thing i never understood is, why does Nissan include the Overtrade as part of the sell price. So they giving overtrade discount to everybody including new car buyers? or they will just change it to a special CNY promo of 33k?

@l0nEr good question regarding the trade in car of $33k and $8.888k CNY discount. I'm scratching my head if the price of $189,800 includes any gotchas that TC motors is planning to stab me in the back with? Especially if I have nothing to trade in with?

ATM, the CoE price is high so will just wait until sanity returns to the market.

@steveting99 hmm why dont you visit, take a test drive and check with the agent?  im also very curious...

i feel they they always give you additional discounts anyway, off the discounted price. so perhaps if you dont have a car, they will give u a 30k discount.

not quite sure what kind of 'gotchas' there could be, to be honest. its just a normal car, and if you see the onemotoring car cost update, nissan margins are one of the thinner ones, it seems... (esp. vs the conti cars)

@l0nEr replying back at 0200 hrs! Must be either working the night shift, burning the mid-night oil or insomnia? 😮

You're right that I'll need to talk with the SE at TC motors and get some clarification on their confusing sales message. Will report back on what I find.
