NATHAN HARTONO’S FIRST MANDARIN SINGLE IS SO EPIC, IT HAS TWO MUSIC VIDEOS

Singapore music fans are well-acquainted with 26-year-old artist Nathan Hartono; he’s been part of the country’s entertainment scene since 2006. This year, Hartono is finally breaking into the Chinese market with Electricity, a Mandarin reimagining of last year’s hit English-language single. And to make sure he starts off with a splash, the song is debuting with TWO music videos, which you can view right here, only on MTV Asia, in their exclusive online premiere.

 

Electricity represents the next step in Hartono’s musical career. After winning the Teenage Icon competition in 2005, he released his first album at the age of 15, hitting the top spot of HMV’s Jazz Chart on its release. He’s since transitioned from a jazzy sound to pop, headlined the first-ever Asia Pop Fest in Melbourne alongside South Korea’s Ailee, been mentored by Jay Chou in Sing! China, and been tapped as one of the Singapore Tourism Board’s brand personalities for their Passion Made Possible campaign.

 

Hartono looks to take his music to even greater heights this year, with Electricity leading the charge. The song’s first video is a fun, frantic foray into art, with Hartono jamming in the middle of an exhibit space before getting down with an eclectic group of living statues. It’s an entertaining watch, made even more fun by trying to spot all the references in the art.

The second music video, shot in Tokyo’s La Cittadella entertainment center, plays out like a private performance, with just Hartono and his backup dancers giving you a show at the center of a closed-out plaza. It’s also a solid showcase of how he’s grown as a performer, commanding the camera with his presence in every frame.
