haha... CO2 is a simply cocktail of water, sugar and baking yeast. done that already.

Lighting, err.. not sure if i get it right. 36W for my 2 feet tank, if the plants not growing well will increase to 72W. Light is those so call special 'Day-light' with the correct light spectrum for healhty plant growth.

You must be a real fanatic in this plant tank to make this a longlasting hobby. I am into all kinds of fishes - discus, marine, goldfishes (those Jap type)... I am never into LuoHan, plant tank and arowana.

Plant tank requires the MOST care... meaning you must have time on hand to trim the plants and clear the glass of algae. Also high risk of plants dying which will spoil the entire tank.

I am on ranchu goldfish now... am v pleased with it. Those Jap Ranchus are the best. My fav.

My own experince is very little when it come to fishes, but have been helping my dad all long with his fishy hobby for over 20 years. from Aro, gold fish, marine, discus, plants, etc, etc.

2 things i will not touch due to high cost is marine and discus. bloody discus so bloddy sensitive to any changes that i give up hope on them but my dad did well.

Plants is one that my dad didn't do too well due to the fact my mum say no no to CO2. I prefer plants all along but didn't do it due to high start up cost. now found out a lot of cheaper subsitude, so try out with a 2ft tank and see how it works. hope it will turn out well. my tank setup is less then $20 less the lighting. bloody lighting is a killer, so I DIY lor but still not really cheap IMHO.
