A Trip To The Holyland - Israel, West Bank and Jordan

How often have we heard about the adventures of a man born about two thousand years ago?

And now at Christmas, we celebrate His birth, and so what better way to know Him than to see His life and journey for ourselves?

That was one of the main reason I set out to make this journey, to a place where strife and conflict mix with history, politics and adventure.

It was also a bucket list item to see the place where they filmed Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade...

Petra, who can forget the two Joneses riding out...

 

So to see it for yourself is a really big deal:

We were very lucky..

Trump made his announcement just as we were preparing to leave Jerusalem..

The riots began less than 5 mins walk from our hotel...

The next day, rockets flew in from the Gaza strip..

Ironic isn’t it that this place which is sacred to Jews, Christians n Muslims alike is the place where so much strife n war has accumulated over the years and it seems never ending as generations after generations continue to wage this conflict.

 

I remember in the mid 90s when a brave Israeli PM Yitzhak Rabin made peace with Jordan and the Palestinians only to be assassinated shortly after and since then hardliner PMs made sure this divide continues. A really sad state of events for a place that many revere as the Holy Land.

But the situation is very much exaggerated.

 

I have been there and walked alone in some of the streets. Never did I felt unsafe. 

 

But there was an incident though where an American tourist was stabbed at one of the city area. We were there some days before the incident took place.

As for food, well, don't hold your breath on fancy cuisine..

For Chinese from SG... you will want to bring some instant noodles..

The typical Middle Eastern fare is ok for a week, but then you won't want to eat hummus, pita bread and all that for a long while...

As for conflict, it simply makes you appreciate our country a lot more..

the holy lands are holy to 3 monotheistic religiions, Judaism, Christianity, Islam.

It's doubtful anyone would bomb their own holy land.

I actually quite like that. 

 

No teh tarik, no fried and fast food. I lost afew pounds after I got back though I ate a lot at every meal for the walking and trekking.
