golden_eagle 2nd Gear December 23, 2017 Share December 23, 2017 Due to an injury when I step on a nail in the old past, now the bone on one side of my heel hurts badly when I walk. I am thinking about creating my custom insole and embed a wood support around the injured bone. I experimented with some wood cut-out and it worked. I can make wood part but I can't find good materials which I can create main part of the insole and a normal matching part for opposite foot. Assume I want to make custom insoles, what kind of materials I can find and where? I think folks in a car forum would have more knowledge in hardware and do-it-yourself ideas. ↡ Advertisement

Thank you and yeah, it's a good idea. What's better than doing my own design and doing it as a DIY project? :)
serenade 6th Gear December 23, 2017 Share December 23, 2017 If your problem is only at the heel, get a pair of these. Works for me on my tennis shoes to alleviate plantar fascitis pain. https://www.lazada.sg/tulis-classic-gel-heel-cups-regular-under-80kgs-11099202.html?spm=a2o42.prod.reccomendations-list-item_page-bottom.1.480e3d1crMBS9a&lzd_rec_event_src=TU105HBAA6LW6YSGAMZ&lzd_rec_event_dest=TU105HBAA6LW76SGAMZ&strat=viewed_viewed&pa=item_page.bottom

I could cut a part of this and stitch to my wood part. I still feel happier to make a custom part.

Injection molded ones are molded to shape and size and provide better support, but may not suit your need. Compressed EVA comes in bigger sheets, which I have not come across any in local stores, you may have some luck trying out taobao looking for "compressed EVA" sheets. These are flat, so you can cut to requirement. If you need only part of the insole on one foot, and trim to size on the other foot, consider buying a pair of flat insole, get the biggest size you can get and work on it. The army emart sell some insoles as big as size 16 US I think ( I may be wrong on this), amazon or any ang moh shopping sites sld be able to get big size insoles too.
