Land-rover registered with a WDxxxx plate

I was looking at the Land Rover Owners Singapore facebook page and saw this:

A land-rover registered with a WDxxxx plate. 

 

I know some very old land rovers has the WAxxxx plate. But I thought that scheme was discontinued?

 

I read further a PDF document from LTA's website. Realized that this guy registered his Land Rover as an "engineering plant". As a result, it's exempt from both COE and ARF. Furthermore, can sneak into Malaysia due to similarity with Kuala Lumpur plates. Genius or what ?!??!

W series needs a class 5 licence to drive the vehicle.

So these LandRover owners can only drive with a class 5 certification?

Most land rover defenders I see are registered with G plate or the (now discontinued) WA plate. These must pay same tax as normal goods vehicle (WA plate is recovery vehicle, same taxes as G plate, according to the LTA document).

 

But apparently registering it as an "engineering plant" is also possible ??

According to the LTA document, no COE, no ARF, no road tax ?!?!?!?

 

Is this too good to be true? If yes, how did the guy in the photo do it?

 

I also want to own a land rover defender with no COE, ARF or road tax !!

All the above is just an assumption.

I suspect it's a photoshop picture. Why TS kick up a big fuss over it? Ppl see anything on social media and think it's real for sure. Sigh.

Maybe trick is these land rover lor

 

Got very old car before coe was invented

But I cannot remember the scheme

Think hardly around anymore

Got. I still see it those "engineering plants". Go to defu lane. Some shops selling used big pipes. It looks more like a crane on tracks. Only move forwards and backwards hoisting the pipes around. Doesn't ply on the roads so it make sense it's exempted from all the taxes. Aiya, forklifts are also exempted from these taxes. Thread starter  大惊小怪

Everyone here knows you are feeling sore because you have bought a double-cab pickup & found out you cannot drive it into Malaysia & decided to kiss a fuss at here.

 

Its either you sell off your pickup & take public transport or shut up & enjoy your vehicle.

 

Believe me, Keep going on like this & you will get banned here sooner or later.

Not true.. road tax is as per levied. Same goes for season parking and whatever operating costs a normal car owner has to pay. The waiver of COE and ARF also means the car cannot be transferred or sold in open market without prior approval. Can't be used for commercial purposes as well, think pte hire. Nor can it be driven by any other person. It's purpose is for a disabled person who otherwise cannot go around using public transport to get to work.
