Benarsenal Turbocharged November 22, 2017 Share November 22, 2017 (edited) Saw this discussion elsewhere on the Internet so thought it interesting to ask here. Assuming same (or similar) car model and asking price, would you rather have: An older car (by 1-2 years) with lower mileage OR A newer car with higher mileage (Leaving aside things like tweaking odometer and etc. Let's presume mileage is genuine and legit) Edited November 22, 2017 by Benarsenal ↡ Advertisement
Thaiyotakamli Supersonic November 22, 2017 Share November 22, 2017 Answer is depend... If u use alot mileage, then get the lower mileage. But lower mileage will translate higher depreciation to absorb. I personally just skip these two and get newer cars with better mileage haha
kdash Supersonic November 22, 2017 Share November 22, 2017 i choose lower mileage as i can still consider to renew COE when the 10 years are up, provided mileage is legit...
Chucky2007 Turbocharged November 22, 2017 Share November 22, 2017 I take higher mileage. It simply means more highway driving which is less heat and stress for engine.

Wt_know Supersonic November 23, 2017 Share November 23, 2017 (edited) age cannot lie mileage can lie by at least 20-30k i will certainly do not pay a "premium" for mileage unless i am sibei sibei confident the mileage is REAL and the owner is OCD that when he saw a bird shit ... straight away clean and wipe type ... . . . like you said ... if everything is REAL ... of course i will take a NEWER car especially the Interior not so cui ... Arogab Turbocharged November 23, 2017 Share November 23, 2017 I will look at the condition of the car. If you look into the car which is clean. The owner must have taken good car of it. Even if the car is very clean. Look at the step point and you will notice it. All the professional cleaning will not remove the heavily stepped on place marking. I will also look at the front and back seats for signs of too many people sitting as a car with heavy loads no matter new or old will not last. Therefore, sign that the owner takes care of the car is very important.

DACH Supersonic November 23, 2017 Share November 23, 2017 This was the dilemma I was in when I was buying my previous pre-owned car. In the end, choose the one that is older but lower mileage. Mileage can adjust, age cannot.

Terrylmt Supercharged November 23, 2017 Share November 23, 2017 Newer car for me. Mileage high is good - means car isn't a lemon and didn't spend too much time in the workshop instead of being on the road..
Solar Turbocharged November 24, 2017 Share November 24, 2017 Newer car for me. Mileage high is good - means car isn't a lemon and didn't spend too much time in the workshop instead of being on the road..Had a car before bought at slightly over 1 year old. 40k mileage already. Somehow it was okay all the way till I sold it off at about 145k. Lets make it more interesting. What happened if newer car about 2 years drive as PHV but when resale tamper the milage, how to spot? hm...Super high mileage will come under wear and tear already... U need someone trusted and experienced like a mechanic to help check it thoroughly
