Someone is accused of using public facilities for profit reselling sports hours and earning 450 yuan a day

Some people resell the sports hours of public sports facilities for profit through social media and second-hand trading platforms. Many sports enthusiasts cannot book sports hours through conventional means and are dissatisfied with this.

According to the "Straits Times" report, some sports enthusiasts have discovered in the past four months that they often fail to book sports at public sports facilities such as the SportsSG or OCBC Arena on the ActiveSG app. Time period. The time slots from 7 am to 10 pm were all rushed to book. Later, it was discovered that someone had put the booked time on the book, Meetup, Telegram, Carousell and other social media and second-hand trading platforms for resale in order to make huge profits.

The reporter observed that, for example, booking a public badminton court sports time slot on the ActiveSG application is generally 3.5 yuan per hour. However, if you book through a third-party reseller, the fee is 10 yuan per person per two hours. Calculated based on the fact that 8 people can exercise together in each time slot, this reseller only pays 7 yuan and can collect 80 yuan, which is a full 73 yuan.

A reseller who sells badminton sessions at the OCBC Indoor Gymnasium on Meetup even priced it at 12 yuan per person per two hours, and the gym usually charges a group of five people at peak hours for a total of 16 yuan for two hours.

Some resellers can even sell up to four gymnasiums a day during peak periods, with prices ranging from 8 yuan per person to 16 yuan per person. In this way, their daily profit can also be 450 yuan.

"The Straits Times" also pointed out that before 11 people were banned from playing football together due to the epidemic, public football stadiums were also very popular for sports hours, and many people could only buy from resellers. It is understood that different public facilities have different ways of reviewing the booker. Some require the booker to be present in person, and some only need to provide the confirmation document, name and ID number before release, so that people can take advantage of it.

Some members of the public suggest that the booking can be limited to one booking per person per day, or that the person making the booking must be present.

It’s been a while...only slot I ever managed to book was 7am🤪

I believe the problem is also associated with the current limit of 5 players per court and you are not allowed to switch court. So, group need to book more courts than what they previously need. This magical 5 number is also very odd since many play doubles.

Inside the Halls seems like got renovations going on. Anyone knows if the Badminton Courts will be refurbished and open for Public booking once again ?
