erm, how is this related ?  [confused]  [confused]

Need to go and see the Superb first. If only the performance can be 5.x seconds in century Sprint but I know the product's positioning in the group won't allow it so.

Staying on topic ... these models are indicated on the brochures and also on SG carmart, prices POA for now

Current model - Kodiaq 2.0 TSI (4X4) - $167,900

POA - Kodiaq - 1.4 TSI 4X2 Ambition Plus (A)

Current model - Superb 2.0 TSI (L&K) - $159,900

POA - Superb - 2.0 TSI Ambition (A) and Ambition Plus (A)

Hope to see the pricing soon

I dropped by to look at the kodiaq. Was vebally quoted 140k plus for the 1.4 which will come June/July. Seems decent enough

Superb is FWD. mai la. Stick with RWD. You still hung up on a 5.x second car eh?

there's always Monster ^_^

3l v6 vs 2L in-line 4 still makes a big difference besides rwd vs fwd. even though the 2L can be boosted to 3l v6 levels. Edited by Mkl22

Acherly fwd or rwd or awd, really doesn't matter to me :D

The only way I can tell the difference is by using the same car and trying them out in each of the 3 config.

Some fwd cars can handle better than a rwd car.

sorry bro, did not explain clearly why I posted this.

- VW msia had a crisis in last years and sales dropped from 13k units in 2011 to 6k units in 2013, probably due to dsg and qc issues.  Forced to do a 40% clearance sale, this may have hurt the vw brand in msia.  So the AD coming back to launch new models is a key development for msia and price levels is key to bringing back customer confidence.  I guess the same applies to Skoda - too high, no one wants or dares to try; too low, is lousy brand or even worth sustaining?  probably why we saw the demise of Fiat brand in last few years.

- Bobby mentioned the poor currency trending vs euro and usd and yet VW chose to keep the new Golf at "more affordable" levels, altho this is subjective.

so in all AD strategy and support is very key to brand.  The VW brand custodian is also deemed important have changed hands after the VW crisis. from comments in this thread, can see a few folks understand the need for a right party to hold skoda brand in "good hands".  The amount of technology and safety components in skoda shd not be underestimated, including DCC and frontal pedestrian safety.

The Superb's boot is cavernous! I really appreciated the liftback design when I had the Octy A4. So easy and effortless to load and unload stuff. I once carried 4 pcs of tyres in the boot!

Me too carried 4 wheels in my Octy boot! I sold the set of 4 wheels to a buyer who had problems fitting them into his Audi A4!

Again you cite examples from Europe, where culture, thought process and values differ from SG's context which is not really relevant.

I shall stop here :D

Agreed. It doesn't matter how other think. The actual sale volume will tell the truth. And that is the hard truth even though it is illogical.

Hi Everyone!  I did a test drive of the Octavia 1.0 Tsi and I must say this:

In terms of space, smoothness, speed, sound, steering, stability, solidness & safety the Octavia is "Superb"!!!

Only one disappointing thing - price.  It's too high and a good number of people might just stick with the Golf.

That is the problem with the Singaporean mentality.. just go with the herd..

bro, let me use this as an example.

In Aug 2009, the prices are as follows (courtesy of ------) hahaha, din know mcf also got restrict competitors name, like SBF. Its one-sh**t by the way

Skoda Octavia A5 - $68,000

Toyota Altis - $70,488

Being an ex-skoda owner, the bias is definitely there. But what about the facts ???

Fact is --> in 2009

1. The Skoda is a much safer car. Even then, it already had a lot of safety features which most Asian makes lack

2. The Skoda is a better built car. Mind you, this is the one with the FSI engine. Very dependable improved OLD engine. 4 spd gearbox (iirc, the A5 had a 5spd GB) nothing to shout about, but bulletproof and guess what? My friend who bought the car (old 4 spd GB) from me clocked 14km/l from Bedok/Tuas daily.

3. The Skoda handles WAAAY better

So many more points I can continue, but oh well

BUT, where is the upgrade ??

It's simple, most people still cannot see past the Skoda brand then, and neither will they NOW ! People say they want lower prices so can compare and choose. When presented with a lower price, they still avoided Skoda

I already gave up so long ago. I was very very happy with my skoda( so did my wife) and I really hope to own another one in future

Bro, you should really buy back a Skoda and keep the spirit alive!

Supersonic

Just realised the Octavias were 1.0l models. I think it'll be a struggle to pull this 1.5ton machine around..

Probably a Too bad VW don't have a 1.2T engine to put into this car.

1.4l may probably be too much to be under 130bhp.

1st hand information. Don't ask me how I got it, else I would have to silence you... [laugh]

npl1sg.png

From the cost breakdown, Octavia & Spaback seems rather value for money (but do take note the VES surcharge of $10K only come into effect from July 2018, so if Sko can deliver the car before that, there should be a saving of $10K).

As for Superb and Kodiaq, I am rather disappointed with the high mark up (caused by low than expected OMV), and in this case, sincere buyer should bargain for at least $5 - $7K off (before financial and other rebates), which I believe is doable under current situation.

BTW, do take note that many dealers still have some open cat COE at ~$48K, so if they use that, basic car cost will be increase by another $10K, so do your sum.
