Just checked the VW website, and the Golf 1.0 TSi is going for $111K. If the Elantra is about $90K, the Octavia should be about midpoint between the 2, around $100K or maybe just under. It will be interesting to see what the launch offers are like!

Thanks for the pricing. The proposition of Skoda is value for money. The appeal is in the pricing, not the car.

Skoda is the type of car that strips off all the jingles and give you the essential features and therrfore able to price their cars attractively. This current pricing is a complete put off. There is no other reason to even view the car. Prestige, no. Design, no. Reliability, no. Resale value, no. VES friendly, no. Death and extinction again, likely.

Perhaps, they’re giving room to slash price to run promotion. At current pricing, conti buyers will turn to Seat, Opel, Peugeot, Citroen, Renault.

I can't say I disagree.  As mentioned by Othello, the skoda range is somewhat complementary to VW range which is extensive and comprehensive. where is the 1.4 Tsi Octavia which occupies the sweet spot deemed by reviewers? Even the Seat Ateca looks more attractive now with its 130k pricing and 1.4 TSI enegine with 150 bhp.  where is the base model Superb which has competitive pricing? sorry I dont have the answers ... I did not attend the launch and have the full price list and launch promotion prices.  Other bros maybe can advise better ...

Just went to the Skoda sg website. There will be a ambition and ambition plus trim for the superb. Definitely cheaper than the L&K trim but with less options.

I am comparing this with the opel Insignia 1.5 version. Got fight it seems. Gonna view the car this weekend to see for myself.

Probably it is due to they are managed by VW now. Not some small AD like in the past. Brand auto up the grade to VW level. lol

Could anyone headed down help me ask if there are plans for the Superb Combi, or possible to indent? Thanks!

Otherwise I won’t bother...

Pricing for Kodiaq looks pretty good.

Not quite. Overseas, Kodiaq is priced close to Peugeot 5008.

But here, Kodiaq is $167,900 against 5008 $128,888.

What extra do I get over a 5008 to justify a premium of $40,000!!! Seriously, nothing!

Yes.  Peugeot features 3 models.  Only the highest 5008 1.6L model on sale is comparable with the skoda 2.0 TSI which is also a 4WD.

then again, where is the Kodiaq 1.4 TSI 2 WD?  it shd be priced bet 120k - 130k alongside the 4WD, making it more competitive against Peugeot and Seat.

Then who will buy Tiguan? Remember Vw want Skoda to complement VW, not take over their market share. With such strategy, i wonder how can skoda be competitive like in the past.....

lemme hazard a guess on how their price positioning works ...

1) Baseline Kodiaq - price NA for now / VW Comfortline 1.4 TSI - $151,400

2) Highly specced Kodiaq 2.0 TSI 4WD - 167,900 / VW Tiguan R Line 2.0 TSI 4WD - $196,400 or 15% premium (VW/Skoda)

so the logic is that in house brand positioning, the Skoda brand is deemed "fighter brand" vs "mother brand".

what they may fail to appreciate is that whilst launching a high spec 160K SUV, this alienates the upgraders from Kia, Hyundai, Citroen, Peugeot and the likes.  To this group, a jump from 120k bracket to 160k is too far a stretch, especially for an unknown brand which has a lot of baggage and unproven performance ( in local acceptance). I would feel the same about the 159K Superb in same vein (using same approach comparing 2L Camry at 145k).  already loss of interest within this thread shows the pricing is not agreeable, and these are folks with knowledge or past ownership of Skoda.  so what more the public with no idea of the brand ...

honestly, I don't think this group will consider Skoda, nor is VCS aiming for this group. In the past, the Octavia was slightly more exp than Asian sedans but offers so much more, still didn't work out. The Superb 2 is such a great car, but still can't beat Cefiro/Teana.

imo, citroen and peugeot is same tier as Skoda.

Perhaps they are targeting current Conti car owners who like their value proposition, as compared to say Volvo XC90 and Kodiaq. Of cos Volvo is one rung higher but it is also at least 100K more! For a family who already has a Mercedes C class at home and looking for a bigger 2nd car that can fetch 7, the Kodiaq does make financial sense !

7 seated SUV may be nichie market due to limited brand so still can target at financial sense as per your opinion. However, what about other model? If folk want lower grade conti due to price sensitive, why they prefer this so much more ex brand vs others like Pug, Citroen good looking car?

I am expecting this brand to price similar or slightly cheaper than ford but not benchmark with VW

After hearing all the positive reviews on the Superb, am curious to check it out myself.

But a lot of VW group options in that price range - Passat 1.8/2.0, Superb 2.0 and A4 2.0.

I suppose A4 is supposed to be a size smaller but the current gen A4 is about the same size as the Passat if I'm not mistaken.

Paging Carbon82 and other VW group owners - Which of the trio would you pick, and why?

agree on the niche market for 7 seater SUV but Skoda has to price it lower to attract prospective buyers imo...
