The way you rush in 1 day I will say, is not very safe.

Especially now that you are carrying young children and family in the car.

Think about it.

But looking at your way of overseas traveling,  I am not surprised.  Trying to cover as much as possible.

Nah... definitely safe... cos not rushing... just driving fast and consistently... partly is cos I drive in very early... so between 5-7 am is really easy to cover a lot of ground... hardly any traffic going north... I don't really need to rest so often... but maybe next time older may need to lar... ha ha...

Anybody noticed this thread is getting particularly different to load? 600 pages liao...

I don't think the number of pages matters... you're only loading one page at a time... the 600 pages don't all load at the same time until you click on the links to go to the next page...

lol maybe he was a long distance coach driver in his previous life.

Ok lah. To each his own.

But 100% should get ACC with low speed follow.

My friend in December did a 11 days, SG-KL-Penang-Ipoh-KL-Desaru-SG in his model 3.

7 places in 11 days... basically 1-2 days per place... given the usable range of the Tesla Model 3, it would explain the stops... all within the range of a single charge with some to spare... more certainty in relation to range and access to chargers...

His holiday is like amazing race. All touch and go.
I cannot understand the logic. After coming back from holiday must rest 1mth.

No leh... I spent 4 days in one place... come back well rested actually cos my pace is very relaxed... heh... I see only 2 things a day... one in the morning and one in the evening... start at 8-9 am and close shop at 5 pm every day... how to be shag?

no ACC with low speed follow, the CC is effectively quite white elephant. I think on NSH, would really help a lot with ACC.

I use ACC all the time on aussie highways, though if the highway through melbourne i still drive manually.

Well I'm used to it... I used my CC on PIE in sections that allow it... but I don't drive during peak hour lar... so still ok... but it's on and off lor... got used to it... set, then cut then resume... all one button press...

For you with such long drives. ACC  would take a lot of fatigue out even if you don't trust lane keep assist. Whole point is not to interfere.

No electric cars for me... I stay in HDB... there are 4 charging stations with 8 cables... and there are like 8 electric cars & vans parked in the multi-storey car park I use... confirm plus chop not enough charging spots in a year or two's time... and electric cars are useless for road trips to Malaysia... I drive to Penang in one day, no electric car can do that... so hard pass...

My estate has ZERO charger. But it is now 15 EVs to 20 EVs. I don't think these EVs are stupid. Most would fit  charging into their daily life routine (charge during grocery trip or in office buildings when working).

Pumping petrol is getting lifestyle to accomodate it (detour to petrol pump even it is along the way).

Nothing wrong with both. To me, it is a matter of perference and degree of adaptability. 😉

Yeah I know right... that's why a bit sian that the Octavia don't have ACC... another one to consider is the Toyota Corolla... my dad just bought one... I think these 3 sedans are in the same ballpark in terms of prices and power/performance plus features... the Corolla has ACC...

The one thing the Octavia has that will really sway me is the liftback design... that's just so so useful... the boot becomes so much easier to use... almost don't need the Combi cos of it... not sure if this generation is a liftback or not... no reviews yet... most are of the pre-facelift model... SGCM is pretty thin on important details like this...

just check the autofueghl reviews bah. octavia certainly should be lift back bah. Superb is also liftback.

yup if I'm looking at pure sedan, then would almost certainly choose liftback.

Almost wanted to buy a Superb before Covid hit.

Yeah that was what I thought... but my car was only 4 years old then... a bit wasted... and also may be problematic to get a non-electric car post 2030 right? Right now, these are still available... after 2030, I wonder how... so my timing is kind of in a good spot at this point...

Narrowed down to 4 cars from 4 different countries: Korea, Czech Republic, Thailand & Japan.

Anyway the 4 sedans with the closest price & feature set are:

1. Hyundai Avante Hybrid 1.6 'S' trim $177,999

2. Skoda Octavia 1.5 TSI mild hybrid 'Selection' trim $169,900

3. Toyota Corolla Altis 1.6 'Elegance' trim $170,888

4. Mazda 3 Sedan mild hybrid 1.5 'Classic' trim $176,888

Comments/Questions

1. Why is Mazda so expensive? Seriously.

2. The Octavia has the liftback that is unique to this group. Makes the boot far more usable than the others.

3. The Octavia has the shortest wheelbase at 2686 mm while the rest are all over 2700 mm. That's quite significant especially in the case of the Mazda 3 which is the longest at 2725 mm.

4. The Corolla is the only one with a CVT which I detest.

5. The Corolla looks like the best bang for buck given the price and features. But I sat in Dad's car, and it feels a bit low rent.

6. The lightest car is the Corolla by a fair margin at 1315 kg while the heaviest is the Octavia at 1440 kg. That's pretty crazy... it's like carrying 2 extra persons on the Octavia.

7. The Octavia is the only one with electric seats for both front seats. And with memory to boot. Which is kind of useless if I'm the only driver and my wife is the only one sitting up front with me.

8. The Octavia is the only one with an electric tailgate which I really dig!

9. The Octavia has the most airbags at 8, while the Avante has the fewest at 6. The rest has 7. So I guess knee airbags for the Octavia for both front passengers, none for the Avante and only for the driver for the other two.

10. The Avante & Corolla has ACC while the Octavia is only standard CC and the Mazda has none? Mazda has no other safety features that the others have. Seriously?! Why is it the second most expensive?

11. The Avante & Octavia have front & rear parking sensors. The other two only have rear ones. This is very crucial for tight spaces.

12. Only the Avante has front ventilated seats. That's a win for me.

13. The Avante & Octavia have smaller fuel tanks at 42 & 45 L respectively... that's a bit small, no? The other two have it at 50 L. Far cry from my 70 L tank currently...

Mz3 straightaway out due to cabin space. They are about cabin quality and aesthetics and never about usable cabin space.
Unless your whole family is on the smaller size. A vios cabin space already bigger than mz3.
I can easily say my elantra cabin space for passenger comfort is no difference from the mazda cx-5 that i drove in australia.

Lol the fuel tank definitely needs some getting used to. Yes my AD elantra is I think 45L. Whereas my accord also 70L.

True only to the extent that you can get a charger when you need it... some may not mind always having the charge state at the back of their minds wherever they go... but I rather just drop by and top up my fuel when I need it, knowing that it's there at anytime, and anywhere... peace of mind, more relaxed...

Your estate will get some chargers eventually... but that's not really my concern...

I just wonder... the target is 60,000 chargers by 2030... we have almost a million vehicles, most of which are able to park in residential areas... so say 900,000 vehicles competing for 60,000 chargers, of which the current distribution is mainly in HDB car parks... and going forward, the distribution will tilt towards public car parks and other spaces other than HDB car parks in residential areas... given our population density, how does the vehicle to charging station ratio work out say 5-7 years down the road when there are many more electric vehicles... besides, who's going to pay for the grid and infrastructure to build more chargers... the tax payer? Or does the government envisage a significant drop in car population due to its car-lite policies so those 60,000 chargers are sufficient?

I'm not willing to be guinea pig for now... teething problems let others suck it up first... ha ha...
