Getting a foreign wife

OK. So I am back in Singapore. Total expenses let's say is about 3 million rupiah which covers transportation to and from airport plus everything else except the airfare.

As you can see the receipt it's quite cheap for ten over days of accommodation food and laundry.

So it's about $300 for ten days? And if I scrimp a bit maybe with a few hundred more I can live there permanently? :) @throttle2 saw your post in my investment thread. Ultimate goal is to have sufficient dividends to live in a village. Then I can quit my job/take part time job if necessary.

What have I learned from this trip?

Getting a village wife is not so straightforward. I did talk to an elder there. I am not so much as to bring the girl out of her world into my world but more of i want to go out of my world into her's - and that is not so straightforward. As mentioned above, I hope to go into her world as opposed to the other way round.

I can easily earn ten times their salary BUT it does not necessarily follow that I am ten times as happy. Money is not everything in the village, at least not for the girl that matters. I don't have a TV there. But I spend more time chatting and just doing simple activities like peeling onions. I don't think I lost anything as a result.

I debated with an elder. Heaven in the village is fiction. My visit is only a week or so. Stay longer and you will find that even in the village there are politics. I countered that I was there on 2007 & 2019. Different people but same culture. If there had been politics the culture should have changed over the decade... The elder countered that observations as Andre visitor is different from people actually working. Cos my interactions tend to be more leisurely as opposed to stressful situations. Point taken

But she acknowledged the point that culture did not change much in over a decade also show a point.

So yeah. I learned a lot in this trip. Do I still hope to get a village wife? I don't know. There are still other villages I will plan to visit but this is THE village cos I lived here before for two weeks and it's a Christian area.

And maybe just one day I will retire there or move there.

So who knows? Maybe I will never get a village wife after all - but it's not for lack of trying. Or maybe I will one day.

Keep this thread alive till then :D

Before i end, I wanna share something someone there shared with me.

'Once you drink the water from serukam (the name of the place), you will always want to go back'

There might actually be truth to that.

Thanks for sharing something rather personal.

Life's a journey. Hope u will be happy and find that someone who will share your life with you, embrace your faith and share same values.

Village, city, town, mountain, caves, hills, just geographical places. Dun think it matters where soul mate is found as long as one is practical, especially in a totally different environment and be mentally prepared to adapt to sacrifice some creature comforts per se.

Again, all the best and will be here to chat as and when u have things to share.

Thanks Philip for sharing something that many of us do not get to experience in our daily routines, letting alone the interesting and out of ordinary desire that very few would have even thought of.

If you build a wooden house there, you would cut your daily expense drastically. So you really do not need much money to settle there.

By the way, so how or where do they generate income or they are self sufficient in the village?

Looks like you are quite determined in persuing a village wife, what are the few key criteria before you would say yes ? The girl ? The religion? The condition of the village? The race? Or other considerations ?

You can choose not to answer the questions though, asking out of my curiosity(kay poh).

I wish you success in finding your desire in a best outcome.

Get difficult question out of way first. Definitely a girl and definitely Christian. Village girl maybe or maybe not. After coming here I realise it's not so straightforward unless you plan to buy but that's another issuealtogether.

Are they self sufficient? Not really. They do make trips to nearby town (singkawang) for some shopping for groceries. It's about 50km away but going by traffic and condition of road it's a whole day trip back and forth so grocery shoppings are planned. Really planned because hospital car must be booked and driver decided. Driver is one of the staff who is also going shopping BUT because he signs out the car he must be OK to drive the entire way to and fro cos any accident is his sole responsibility - apparently no such thing as insurance for cars. I didn't ask how they would repair the cars in the village.

There are small provision shops around so it's not that bad. How the provision shops actually get supplies I don't know cos they are outside the mission hospital itself - if you haven't noticed when I say village I am generally referring to the hospital/compound and people staying within as supposed to the entire region.

Money wise it's from the local patients and donations from Christians around the world plus some govt funding for very specific purposes.

One thing never changed. It's like the work and life is merged in the village. I guess because the doctors live next to the hospital it's like taken for granted they will make rounds even if they are off - I can't even imagine going to dept on off day just to check if everything is all right.

Different world there.

Twincharged

actually village girl or farmer daughter presentable too ððð

This one is farmer daughter that never work under the sun. Maybe night-time farming or chicken farm? [laugh]

I once met a very fair one who told me she works as caddy ... night golf. Jokes aside, turns out they wear long sleeves, long pants covering up so they can remain fair while ... err ... standby holding clubs and handling balls, all under the sun.

All right.

Here comes part 2 or whatever.  Going to an island in Indonesia to attend the wedding of one doctor I met in kalimantan.

I used to joke when I get married I will just send GPS coordinates to my guests.  Well, in a way, I was given an address in an island east of borneo for a wedding and here I am, on the way.

Maybe wont find anyone here as it's a wedding but it's still related to the wedding and who knows.

There should be a part 3 when I go myanmar next year.  Heheh.
