Arogab Turbocharged November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 Would just like to highlight that police do have to prioritise cases. No injuries, no theft, not so important. Please be understanding. My case was one of public nuisance and danger: bunch of young people with loud motorbikes were revving and racing in a car park over several weekends late at night. I noted the times and activities over a couple of weeks and then called the NPP. TP plus LTA patrol cars appeared within 20 minutes of the call. I could see the troublemakers being lined up and the bikes loaded into LTA truck. Please understand the nature of your complaint first before suggesting that policemen are slow or not doing their job. Police is not a personal security force. If there is malicious intent ie. same individual trying multiple times to target you with mischief, then police with give more priority. If not, just accept that there are envious folks and quarrelsome folks among citizens. Our forefathers not so cultured so we are also rather low class behaviour prone. Yeah, I was understanding. priority means others comes first but does not mean my case which can be solved is thrown away. I had waited years. But it is maybe forgotten. With all those cameras, they could have solve the case within a damn short while. Anyway, look at my second case after so many years, I would not even have the thinking of going to bother the police cos they will not be able to solve as I am understanding towards it. But my advice to you is not everything is just people making noise, or not understanding. You need to admit there are flaws and those guys up there need to move faster and better or we will be taken over some day. ↡ Advertisement
Arogab Turbocharged November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 China no elections. They don't have to justify any tax and reserves spending. And civil servants selection process is also muddy. In Singapore, got too many uninformed clowns such as in this forum trying to voice opinion and demand to be served and heard. Even if complaint is trivial have to show interest, if not the haters bash ministers and gahmen even more loudly in the forums. Plse be more informed when making comparisons. What has China no elections got to do with the efficiency of our Gov?? In fact those no elected are running the country at a faster rate is a concern. End of the day, you do not admit that there are some fault and flaws and these guys are paid millions and are expected to think faster and better. What will you do if your client thru you makes lots of money but only pays you very little? Something which I told you before, call people clowns, call people haters, ask people to be more informed when making comparison.....try harder and think harder. I don't think I am not informed. You need to open up a little.

Vinceng Turbocharged November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 (edited) Since everybody are grumbling about inflated exorbitant cost of living in Singapore, why do 1 choose this lifestyle? Unlike pets, children needs parental guidance since young. If 1 can't give this lifetime commitment, juz be DINK lo. Nobody forces you to have kids what. This is where the danger lies within. If Singaporeans fail to reproduce enough, the government will continue to open the flood gates to import more Foreign Talents (actually they are not talents, more of jobless in their home countries and coming here to squeeze in the already saturated job market) Edited November 6, 2017 by Vinceng
Throttle2 Supersonic November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 With the artificially inflated exorbitant cost of living in Singapore, most parents really do not have a choice. Cannot afford to have the mother stay at home to look after the children. I know of a couple who chose to hire a maid instead of placing their children in childcare as both work long hours and could not afford to leave the office at 6pm to fetch their children. http://www.straitstimes.com/business/economy/singapore-ranked-worlds-most-expensive-city-for-expats-for-4th-straight-year While i cant help but empathize, its still all about choices. Its becos the generation today is much much more materialistic than the generation before. Not blaming or judging just stating a fact
inlinesix Hypersonic November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 This is where the danger lies within. If Singaporeans fail to reproduce enough, the government will continue to open the flood gates to import more Foreign Talents (actually they are not talents, more of jobless in their home countries and coming here to squeeze in the already saturated job market) Does it affect your life? If we are being squeeze, it means that we can't even survive in our own turf. How are we going to compete with the world outside? What's the point of having kids with poor upbringing which is quite common nowadays?

inlinesix Hypersonic November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 Consider this nice comment I found: "But one day, there will be an efficient hybrid car and we will legislate that everybody has got to go hybrid or electric. And if we have a nuclear power station 30km away from us, then we'll have more energy than we need." - LKY, November 2008 during Singapore Energy Conference. I like the part where citizens will be persuaded very hard to change to clean cars. How the electricity is generated can be changed. All these new taxes against internal combustion engine cars is the soft approach to ween us off the polluting cars. When a Singapore resident voluntary switch to electric cars, this resident is being slapped with additional tax due to polluting energy source (i.e.power station). How does LKY gonna convince ppl to switch to cleaner energy?

Lotr8445r 5th Gear November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 re: 10 year COE wasteful. But no restrictions on the number of times one can renew. LKY did say it was to change the image of a dilapidated and run down city with smoky cars breaking down. Human nature is that we are cheap and lazy and won't maintain a car well unless there is law. I do think with the stabilisation of electric vehicle tech, COE lifespan may be slowly extended. It will be matched with a more progressive usage-based road tax. re: parking space. Actually other Asian cities will be learning from singapore about how to convert old car parks into electric vehicle recharge stations, battery service points and hubbing points for shared PHVs. Roofs may be used for solar panels or vertical farms. Agreed. Gov never say car can only last for 10 yrs. It is those grumblers that hope to pay the said amount of coe to use it for more than 10 years. One can just renew his car coe if he believes his car can last longer. No body force him to scrap his car.
inlinesix Hypersonic November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 Both companies are started by private individuals. In singapore, how many citizens have started world class companies? Even Grab started by Malaysian PR. Private company excellence is in the hands of citizens, not gahmen. We citizens grumble and curse gahmen but cannot hit the big time on our own. It is true about the lack of talents in a small population. How about Creative? Not world class? That one individual went for a Tesla model with low production output and uncertain reliability. And the recharging infrastructure standards not in place globally. Cannot even agree on plug adaptor at that stage. And even if the car was imported in reasonable volume by a distributor, its OMV was too high and would result in astronomical list price. Look at the experience of the Prius and the Leaf. Those richies who can afford prefer to hao lian with BMW and Merc. Citizens' taste and demand not ready, not a case of punishing tax or narrow-minded gahmen. It was a luxury electric car and need to be taxed as a luxury car. Besides, barely a year later we have announced emissions-based taxes in preparation for the future. Moved fast enough, no? Before that 1 individual went for a Tesla, BMW has been importing i3. Unfortunately, BMW has to import i3REx to make it sound like Hybrid. Unfortunately, i3 is an electric car & NOT hybrid. That emission-based taxes is a sham. As i said before "this resident is being slapped with additional tax due to polluting energy source (i.e.power station)."
inlinesix Hypersonic November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 The i3 price was prohibitive to many. And also locked into BMW's recharging technology. It's the high current quick charge tech that will drive acceptance, and that is still unstable. But all along, the Prius has been available for those who really care for environment, except that the conti brands keep slagging it for being ugly and unreliable. Again it's a case of low demand from public, not any unfair ban by gahmen or LTA. re: ...emission-based taxes is a sham. Don't be so quick to be so cynical. It's a sham only if the gahmen is proved to be supporting one brand or supplier and getting kick-backs to enrich civil servants who do the approvals. That is definitely not the case. Imagine if electric charging stations are rolled out and only the rich can afford the electric cars! What will you say if they are given further subsidies for their luxury electric cars? Gahmen is trying to bring better life for all communities, not just electric car enthusiasts. If gahmen is sincere in pushing enviro friendly vehicle, more incentive should be given. It is a sham as it slap buyer of enviro friendly vehicle with more tax rather than reduce tax.

Arogab Turbocharged November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 Methods that don't work are discarded, and civil service delivery of effective policies is outstanding. Gahmen is not afraid to change things that don't work. It is those who are slow and less skilled or talented that complain gahmen is arrogant with its demand for excellence and meritocracy in its selection and promotion process. Even the Workers Party admit they cannot match gahmen and senior civil servants. I am sure you can appreciate from reading the complaints and grumbles in this forum that singapore does face a lack of talents (at least among some senior/matured workers). I can understand why many of those are complaining and grumbling as we (our leaders) are progressing a bit too slow. You keep mentioning LKY quote on electric vehicle. And you also say other cities are learning from us. Let me tell you to take a walk in Shenzhen and as yourself if we can learn from China. And why our PM has to mention we got to learn from China to become cashless. Why are we getting slower than others? Shouldn't leadership speed up? If our leaders are fast and more on the ground, I think complains and grumbles will lessen. Why do you keep speaking the Gov so peerrrrfeeeecctt? Shouldn't you be speaking up for something more constructing instead of asking people to stop complaining?

Arogab Turbocharged November 6, 2017 Share November 6, 2017 Transport minister moved from fixing the HDB choices and prices to fixing buses and extra train lines and very few overnight breakdowns. All while nursing heart bypass surgery recovery. Be more reasonable in your pointing finger. And while you point at million dollar salary, it is not a walk in the park. And a post which I doubt you qualify for. Besides, we always poke at "million dollar salary" but don't we ourselves demand highest possible salary if we are given heaviest responsibilities? We tell our boss to fly kite if he don't increase, right? But for ministers, we expect them to be under wage control of citizens who demand that they work for less and threaten to vote them out (retrench them) if not happy over trivial matters. Minister already successful in their pre-political career with very decent wage. Ever think why should he continue bearing our curses and threats everyday working for the nation? In singapore he cannot confiscate our HDB and cars and shares to give himself and his family, unlike other countries. If you think about it, why should these very intelligent, top-grade performers bother to serve us ungrateful citizens? Nothing stopping them from migrating with their family and leaving us to "enjoy" under the opposition. Both companies are started by private individuals. We citizens grumble and curse gahmen but cannot hit the big time on our own. It is true about the lack of talents in a small population. I agree with you I do not qualify for the million dollar salary. But let me tell you I am the opposite of what you describe me with your assumption that is driving these people against you. I am paid to run my business unit with responsibilities/profitability and I am paid according to market price, at the same time, I do receive bonuses accordingly to my BU's performances, as such I can afford to upkeep my parents expenditures, buy a reasonable car of my liking, have my holidays yearly, continue my savings and investments. In the overall, I am paid accordingly on my performance and I do lead a good life. I am here in this forum to only point out certain faults and flaws with the additional perks of enjoying my forum kakis of sharing, chatting and joking. As such, my advice for you is to stop assuming on other people and write on constructive advices, jokes and share info instead of keep pointing to these people or this particular group. Come to this point, my initial advice to you is to ask you to enjoy this forum. Later as this continue, I might just ignore you and not comment on you as I assume if you keep talking so perfect on our Big G and let them do what they want. Might as you everyone shut up and no more of this forum and you will also disappear with the forum. The End....... ↡ Advertisement
