Drugs worth about $275,000 were seized and eight suspected drug offenders were arrested in an operation by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) on Friday (Sept 29).

 

The drugs included about 2.15kg of heroin and 495g of Ice or methamphetamine, said the CNB in a statement on Saturday.

 

On Friday afternoon, CNB officers were deployed near a carpark at New Upper Changi Road to observe a group of suspected drug traffickers.

 

At around 4pm, a man was seen leaving a unit and waiting at the void deck of a building.

 

Soon after, three men arrived in a car. The man from the building approached the car and was seen talking to the three suspects, said the CNB.

 

After they parted ways, officers arrested the man at the void deck, together with another younger man who had met him.

 

Officers then raided the unit that the man had exited from earlier and recovered about 2,132g of heroin and 191g of Ice.

 

Three other suspects, a man and two women, were also arrested in the unit, said CNB.

 

The three men in the car were also arrested by another party of officers who had tailed the car to a petrol kiosk along Bedok South Avenue 1, where they had stopped to refuel.

 

About 304g of Ice and 18g of heroin were found in the car, said CNB.

 

All eight suspects are Singaporeans, aged between 25 and 55 years old.

 

Investigations into the drug activities of the suspects are ongoing.

 

For trafficking more than 15g of diamorphine, or pure heroin, or more than 250g of methamphetamine, a convicted drug trafficker can face the death penalty.

I also think they should face the full brunt of the law.

 

But isn't there some change in the law recently that not all cases that would mandatory face the gallows in the past, will now be carried out, and the judge has the option to commute to life sentence? if not wrong, it was some response to the incessant calls by other countries big on human rights that say it's inhumane to have death sentences...

A joint operation between Singapore and Malaysia has smashed a Johor-based drug syndicate, the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a statement yesterday.

 

About 14kg of heroin was seized and 16 people were arrested as a result of the investigations, which the CNB carried out together with the Narcotics Crime Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Malaysia Police.

 

Last Tuesday, both agencies received intelligence that a consignment of drugs would be coming into Singapore.

 

CNB officers spotted two suspected drug traffickers - Singaporean men aged 45 and 55 - driving to the carpark at Alexandra Retail Centre later that day.

 

Two other suspects - Malaysian men in their 20s - arrived at the carpark on a motorbike shortly after.

 

All four men were arrested soon after leaving the carpark in their respective vehicles. Police found about 470g of heroin in the car's glove compartment. They also recovered $2,500 from each of the Malaysians.

 

Following the arrests, police searched the workplace of one of the Malaysians, a 25-year-old. They found about 2.4kg of heroin and 525g of Ice, or methamphetamine, in his locker.

 

In the evening, CNB officers arrested two more Singaporean men at a Choa Chu Kang supermarket. The suspects, in their 20s, were also believed to be associated with the syndicate. A small packet of Ice was found on one of the men.

 

"Both violently resisted arrest and necessary force was used to subdue them," said the CNB.

 

"Two CNB officers sustained minor injuries in the process and received outpatient treatment."

 

The next day, Malaysia's NCID launched an operation against the Johor-based drug syndicate. They arrested 10 people and seized 11.5kg of heroin and 61g of Ice, as well as six cars.

 

The CNB said investigations are ongoing.

 

The estimated total value of the heroin and Ice seized here is about $347,000. Anyone found guilty of trafficking more than 15g of pure heroin or 250g of methamphetamine faces the death penalty.

I think the law makers in both countries every year also sick and tired of families of the drug trafficker appealing against each and every death sentence case.  Some even went to kneel in front of Istana, rope in the international amnesty and holding placades.. and post in youtube.

My personal take.

 

Two wrong cannot make it right.

 

If one commits murder, then punishment is "murder" of the criminal.

If the criminal committed murder because the person whom he murdered actually killed his wife, then the state kill him because the criminal killed a stranger.

 

For the politicians and judges, it is easy to make laws or sentence someone to the gallows. But if you make each and every politician and judge who has the power to commit someone to capital punishment, to be the one who pull the switch of the electrical chair, pull the trigger to release the floor board to hang or be the one to inject the death chemicals into the criminal, I am very sure the death penalty will be abolished soon after.
