Yes, I brought my CX-8 to do self healing PPS about 2 weeks after collecting it. That picture where there's a Skoda Kodiaq was when I did up my PPS.

Yup, for PI GLB at $160k+, it's the progressive variant or base AMG variant which are lacking in many things too. Even the side mirrors are manual (not electric). That's why I think it will be a good buy (at $160k+) for buyers who want the badge and nothing else. If priorities are other stuff such as space and tech, then better to consider other options.

Hmm, the CX-8 is indeed quite high for my 2 boys (5 and 3 years old) but they enjoy climbing up and down and kept saying that my CX-8 is a monster car (they love monster trucks). For my parents (and adults like us), the height is just nice whereby we can just "slide our backside" in when entering the car. I'm in the Malaysia CX-8 facebook and telegram group chats and some of them installed the side steps, I feel that the side steps are not necessary and they don't look nice on the elegant CX-8.

I took a look at CX-8 last week and PI GLB today at Cars and Coffee. Not much diff in the pricing, GLB only cost a few K more.

But surprisingly, CX-8 got better feature and also better build quality. Of cos, this is my personal feel.

Check with you, what freebies you got for your CX-8? Any friendly Mazda SE to recommend?

Went to Mazda showroom last week but I did not leave my contact with the so-so SE I met. Thanks

Yeah, CX-8 has got almost everything I want/need in terms of features. Build quality is surprisingly good. I would think that for a Japanese car, CX-8 has very good build quality. The GLB is an entry level Mercedes thus build quality is not as good as the other Mercedes.

I almost bought the GLB but went with the CX-8 in the end. You can read here (https://www.mycarforum.com/forums/topic/2706201-mazda-cx-8/?do=findComment&comment=7005368).

Some freebies that I got:

  1. Ready Open Cat COE even though I paid for non-guaranteed COE. They gave me immediate registration.
  2. Good trade in price for my previous Toyota Wish.
  3. 5 years warranty and 5 years free servicing including parts and labour (but this was standard across all CX-8 registration back then, not sure about now).
  4. Free solar film.
  5. Free front and rear camera.
  6. Free car vacuum cleaner.
  7. Free shell welcome kit and 10x $6 shell vouchers.
  8. Free additional $500 servicing credits (to change tyres etc in future).
  9. Free floor mat.
  10. Free magnetic sunshades.
  11. Free umbrella.
  12. Free Moet champagne (for first 50 customers I think).
  13. Trying to recall what else they gave me. Too many things.

My SE is good, very friendly, not pushy and very accommodative. Will PM you his contact. No regrets on my CX-8 purchase, already clocked 2k km over the past 1 month.

Your SE is good! Chio or not? 😊

I’ve decided to also join the CX8 club after seeing the car many times in the showroom.

Does anyone know where we can install side steps?

My SE is guy leh... hahaha!!

Wah nice!! Welcome to CX-8 club! I can't find any CX-8 SG clubs in Facebook so I went to join the CX-8 club in Malaysia (search for Mazda CX8 Owners Club Malaysia and request to join) and I'm also in their Telegram group. The CX-8 has been launched in Malaysia for almost a year so there are a lot of accessories and info in that group.

Which variant you bought?

I'm not sure where we can install side steps but from what my SE told me, JDM Autocare specializes in Mazda accessories.

Thanks! Yeah I couldn’t find any group either. Maybe we should start our own. Haha. I got the 7 seater because my usage is either 5 seats or 7 seats.

I accidentally msg a workshop chain in Malaysia as they carry 6 different types of side steps. I liked the retractable kind so it doesn’t spoil the look of the car but our neighbours still MCO so have to source for a reputable workshop locally instead.

Yeah, I think we should start our own group. I believe there are quite a lot of CX-8 owners cos I saw a few on the road and also when I collected my car, I saw many others also collecting their CX-8.

Seems like 7 seats CX-8 is popular cos when I went for 1k servicing, the other 2 CX-8 were both 7 seaters.

Haha, yah Malaysia workshop accessories pattern more than badminton. I'm thinking to go to change the front dash board carbon fibre panel and side doors carbon fibre panels to the nice Ayous wood panels when borders open.

Btw, when are you collecting your car?

So I have been driving this car for about 400km now and sharing my feedback for anyone considering this car. Just to give some background I am comparing this against my previous cars which was a conti car  (not exactly apple to apple but you get the idea) so you may have different experience from me. All feedback are personal POV and subjective to individual experience.

Pros

+ Pick up: Despite it's size and weight and NA engine, the power is sufficient as long as you are willing to push the rpm (sub 4k) when required. Tested this with full 7 seats occupied and power is still sufficient

+ Gear shift: Very smooth despite being only 6 speed auto. The car is not fond of dragging the early gears so you may find the pick up slower than others but it still picks up better than other similar weight petrol SUV such as the Disco Sport

Drive: Despite its weight and size, it handles long winding corners quite well for a SUV. I expected a lot of body roll and oversteer for a car this size but perhaps the G-Vectoring technology is really more than just marketing. Don't expect it to completely eliminate body rolls though, it still has to obey the laws of physics

+ Suspension: Very comfortable ride. The usual speed strips cannot really be felt when going over it

+ Cabin noise: Hardly hear road or engine noise VS other premium brand SUV. Better than GLB but not as quiet as a Disco Sport

+ Aircon: Aircon is really strong and cold compared to my previous cars.

+ Safety functionalities: Lane departure and blind spot has been quite useful on busy highways. 360 camera helps a little when parking a long car. Do you really need it? No, but it is nice to have and does improve the driving experience. Small things like the HUD is also helpful as you can monitor your speed without taking your eyes off the road.

Cons

FC: I do 30% highway 70% city and average about 8km/l even with moderate acceleration

- Interiors: Average compared to a mid-range conti car. What I really hate is the soft leather that is used on the gear stick. It is wrinkled and loose and no way to fold it neatly. Complete atrocity to look at. WHY MAZDA WHY.

UX/UI: Feels dated and a little slow. The maps are ugly and the display screen has poor resolution that feels like it is a few years old. Apply car play is wired, no wireless charging, navigation system is not the easiest to use, no touchpad for inputs and reliant on the knob when car is moving. I have more difficulties trying to type using the knob when driving than using a touch screen

- Seat fold down: As a 7 seater, it can improve accessibility to the 3rd row if the middle seat can be folded down independently. Do not know why the manufacturers stick to the 60-40 seat fold-ability that is quite 90s

- Side steps: For it's height I think it could do with a side step that will help young children and the elderly

Exterior: This is quite personal but I think the grills are ugly. It is too small for a car this size that makes it look unbalance. A large grill would give it more presence. Also, the DRL, headlights, brake lights are too small for a car this size . I can hardly notice the turn signal lights when I switch it on. It's like the designer did not really like lights on a car

Overall: A value for money large SUV. Drives well and has most of the functionalities that should come with a SUV. Can it be better - sure. Would I pay more than 200k to address the cons - no.

Indeed fast! Collected the car in less than 2 weeks after signing the purchase agreement.

Does anyone know if the 2.5L engine comes with cylinder deactivation?

Enjoying the ride so far; in fact the drive reminds me of my previous bmw 523 (though its fwd compared to rwd).

The owners should form a WA/ Telegram grp!

Welcome to the family. They are indeed really fast to deliver the car. Want to slow also cannot.

I don't think it comes with cylinder deactivation. Quite sure they will market that if it does and I did not see any information about that even for the ones sold in Msia and Aus.
