To all the Kiasi owners who always go to workshop to feed the families of the workshop boss, save your money if you want to add an additional USB, HDMI or check anything at the rear panel of your head unit. 

 

Here is the video to show you exactly how you can do that.

 

Note that it is so SAFE to perform this job, I didn't even bother to switch off my car engine/

The features I could make out from Android Auto..

 

1. Google navigation.

2. Call / answer handsfree

3. Listen to SMS and Whatsapp messages & reply

 

All these function can be perform without touching the screen or phone. 

 

1. Speak into your car mic ,say " OK Google "

2. Say your desired address , building, place of interest etc

3. Google map will show you the direction of travel.

4. Say " How is the traffic ahead ?"

5. AA will response with a traffic report of your intended route, stating any traffic jam along the way, and gives you an estimated arrival time.

 

1. Say "OK Google "

2. Say " Call Xiao San "

3. AA will attempt to call your Xiao San. If there are multiple entries for your Xiao San number, Google will talk to you, ask you..

" Do you wish to call Xiao San on HOME or MOBILE "

4. For discrete calls, say " Mobile "

5.The call will be made.

 

1. Say "OK Google"

2. Say " Send a text message to Xiao San"

3. Google will response to you in speech " What do you wish to text to Xiao San? "

4. Say " Darling, I will arrive in 15 minutes time, please wash clean clean"

5. AA will repeat your message and response with " Do you want to send ? "

6. Say "Send"

7. Message will be sent.

 

1. When you receive a text message or Whatsapp message, it will prompt on top of your screen.

2. You can either tap on the notification on the screen to have AA read out the message or leave it alone.

3. Then say " OK Google"

4. Say " Read my last text message"

5. AA will read aloud the message your Xiao San send to you " Text message from Xiao San, I already wash clean waiting you"

 

On AA, you can also scroll through your recent activities.

In order to hide them, swipe them off the screen.

Just a caution about Android Auto, remember to disable Data Usage on your handphone if you are driving to Malaysia.

Unless you got a super cheap deal for data roaming in Malaysia.

Once you use Android Auto, you will tend to use Google Maps and Spotify for your music and both of these require data.

Optionally you can install Here WeGo  navigation. Pre-install the maps and then select Offline navigation.

The map will run via GPS only. 

Anyway, as long as your didn't set your data to ROAMING, it won't connect any Apps to a foreign country network.

What head unit?

 

Most of the time is cable issue. Either wrong specs of cable, too long and/or using extension or factory aux port.

 

However, having said that, Huawei is notorious for AA incompatibility. Follow this fb page for updates that could fix some of the issues.

I suppose u disable or do not activate the auto readout when lady boss is in car

I'm using Redmi 5. after download app. i plug usb cable to my Pioneer 8650 nothing comes out.

 

According to manual, there is no reference of Android Auto so I'm afraid 8650 only supports CarPlay.
