Anonymous Dislike function - Time for review?

This is not a first time we hear feedback about the Anonymous Dislike.


 


Let me try to bring everyone to see things from our point of view.


We started this self policing system because we want members that are helpful to get praised thus points will determine the members rank.


 


The dislike function is built to help us kill the spammers, if you see any spammers you can just dislike the post then they will get auto-ban eventually (Details refer to the point system guide)


 


If you are not spammers and you get dislike, your post could be offensive, in-relevant, or worst of all the person just don’t like you. 


 


Changing it from anonymous or revealing the person’s name wont change anything. What will/can you do if you know who disagree/dislike your post?


 


The current praise and dislike system will stay, however we will look into the points spread. 


 


Receiving a few negative points should not be taken too seriously.


If you get dislike attack on your post you can directly report to me, but please ensure your post doesn't violate any forum regulation.

What is points?


You are awarded points when other members Praise your post. You are deducted points when other members Dislike your post.


Your number of points determine your Rank in the forum.


 


What is Praise and Dislike?


When you find a post useful, you should Praise it. This will increase the points of the poster. With more points, his rank will increase


 


The inverse is true for the Dislike function. If you find a post offensive, useless, off topic, etc, you should Dislike it. This will decrease the points of the poster. If the poster ends up with negative points, his account may be suspended or fall under moderation.

Hi all, I have taken some time to read this thread, and to answer you guys regarding your burning issues isn't an easy task. I will speak in a capacity of this forum and the idea of the Praise and Dislike function. 

 

The Praise and Dislike were introduced to this forum 2014; this is to allow the user to grow their rank faster other than just the number of posts they have contributed. With this function, we can "reward" those who give constructive, helpful or useful comment/post. And also vice-versa, the dislike function is to give you options where you can voice out that the comments are a gibberish or insensible comment. 

 

For the anonymous dislike function, we understand where you would like to have a transparent conversation where you know who dislike your post and you can choose to defend yourself or ignore.

 

However, we decide not to go to this extent where we are open for such liberation. We have to take into the consideration of the usage of these features. Some people may see it as a dislike; some may also see it as a life threatening comment where it goes, whoa. You don't like me arh? 

 

Afterall, some may take this very seriously. And there may be further repercussion where both parties quarrel inside the forum. In the end, the moderator will have to step in and solve the problem. So with much consideration, we have chosen the dislike function to be anonymous. 

 

And with that said, we will remain our stand regarding the anonymous dislike function. However, if any of you have any burning issues, you can report to @pchou or me, we are paid to serve you guys in a way, so we will definitely help you with the forum. 

 

Lastly, I wish everyone to take the Praise and Dislike with an open heart. You can never win the whole world; there will always be haters.

 

People who don't like your comment doesn't mean that they don't like you in person too.

I really do not know if you are a he or she is unless you take off that mask.

 

 

I guess I must be prepared for -5 now.

 

Thanks for the further clarification but majority are not uptight about about it.

 

Just curious about anonymous dislike

 

1. the identity known only to admin and moderators (which I think is fair and right)

 

2. non admin and non moderators do not have access to such information (I am not so sure)

 

 

It would be good to be clear on these points so no misunderstanding occurs.

After reading through more comments, I think we should encourage the use of likes and dislikes by making both anonymous. Comments should be optional. Now majority of the likes are given/ received by the same old same old "collectors", it is not exactly contributing to the self regulating and self policing for/ by the community objective.   

 

To make it meaningful, set a minimum X anonymous dislikes and likes for points to be counted, so we eliminate the siao gina and highlight the sensible/brilliant and quick-ban-this-guy posts. 

 

Points accumulated may be changeable for NTUC vouchers, kekekekeke
