I drove from Sapporo to Furano (mountain resort) and back in Dec 2016. It was fine. Roads were generally clear of snow. But every year is different.

I had a 4wd Honda Fit. No chains only snow tyres.

Can take my MIL?

:D

If any good looking rich young lady needs a guide for Japan pm me. I know all the nice places to go, all the nice restaurants and hotels. We can stay in a hotel with its own spa in the room with a nice view.

Anything to see in Furano during Dec other than snow?

Still undecided should I have a trip to Hakkaido during Dec.

I know during summer will be beautiful with all the flowers.

I went in winter.

Couldn't see a thing.

All covered in snow.

I couldn't even walk

had to use skis.

And it was cold

freezing actually.

I stayed at the Prince hotel for few days of skiing. Nice place and food. There's a cheese factory nearby but other than that we didn't venture much.

Jamesc provided a few of the pics of the hotel night garden with several artisan shops... beautiful scene.
