Planning for a Dec trip to Hokkaido. Will rent car to go a small loop with hakodate the furthest I would explore.

Question is, is December a good time to go?

Would really like to hear from bros here.

I also realized the bnb or hotel price is jaw dropping too!!!!!!!

snow and ice.... not to discourage you... but please don't be over-confident on driving skills in conditions that may be 10x more difficult than SG or NSHW.

Heard from friends that drove before during winter and was not that bad as the road is generally maintained well by locals.

More concerned with whether Dec is a good time to go as my family is not really into skiing. July till Aug should be the best though.

Nothing in concrete yet but was put off by the accommodation cost. Maybe fukuoka is a better option in Dec.

Huh? usually Hokkaido only have all the Jap branded vehicles for rent - how did you get a place that explicitly rent you a conti?

Yes, I was also very surprised. The price similar to Forester. Of course, Forester will be bigger and more space.

Rent from ToCoo!

Plan: Nippon-Rent-A-Car special+HEP :Mercedes Benz GLA250 guaranteed!!

Will be travelling early to mid November. Will it be difficult to drive during that season?

If not adviseable to drive, any recommend? Any hotel recommendation too?

I will be there on Christmas week no worry, you only early Nov why worry so much. Snow driving are not as difficult as many think after multiple drive on snow.

Snow is generally ok but if the roads become icy, coupled with high winds, it can be stressful. I have skidded on icy road before, so I won't say it is easy for drivers from the tropics with no experience driving on snowy mountain roads.

4WD with winter tires is a must for me when driving into snow mountains.

Yes. Agreed on your opinion on icy road.

Winter tire is compulsory in Hokkaido and I had rental a AWD SUV.
