hi bro, did you manage to buy bike for your girl?

So bought the bicycle on xmas eve.

Basically initially i went down to Decathlon Chai Chee where they had 14" and 16" bicycles.

The 14" was too small for my girl who is about maybe 112cm.

But otherwise their cheapest 14" bicycle i think is a good starting bike for someone who's bit shorter. It's the lightest at just above 8kg and just around 110-120 dollars.  The one with fancy designs is actually heavier by about half a kg.

The 16" is too heavy and is ~ $150. My girl had trouble pedaling the bicycle though the seat was not properly adjusted. So me and the wife decided to go somewhere else.

Another thing to note is that the staff there in the bicycle section aren't knowledgeable about their products. The staff told me the cheaper bike is more heavy (which is not true cos we checked the specs online and even just carrying it, the cheapest bike is lighter by half a kg).

I would classify it more as a supermarket experience rather than going to a bicycle shop.

Then drove down to Trek at Jalan Kilang Barat.

There are 2 models of 16". One is about 260 but distinctly heavier. Theres another one about 310+ which i eventually bought. But it's not very gender neutral, it's white and pink. The boy's model is OOS (black and blue)

But the staff are obviously more knowledgeable and although i didn't have any burning intelligent questions about their products, felt satisfied with the purchase.

The main advantages of the Trek 16" vs the Deca 16":

1. It has a handle behind the seat for the parents to hold the bike more easily when teaching the child to off training wheels

2. It has no hand controlled brakes, rather it brakes via back pedaling (reason told by Trek staff is that children tend to "slam" the brakes, so it's safer this way)

3. It's lighter so obviously easier to handle for the kids

4. Discernibly better finishing

Major con will be double the price bah and no gender neutral option. The other girl's one is white and purple which my girl didn't want.

unless parents have time to spend with them or cycle with them in the park.

there is one boy staying around my block, he has been cycling around the estate every afternoon after school for few years, riding from block to block, he just love cycling, smaller bike to roller blade, to scooter then now he riding a bigger bike, he will try all kind of thing with wheels [laugh][laugh]

last week saw him riding a ofo/obike cos he is bored with his own bike [laugh][laugh]

Everybody just got to ride a public bike sometimes :XD:

Anyone using iottie bike mount for handphone? Or any good brand to recommend?

For a iPhone 6+.

I’m using Quadlock for iPhone 6+ mounted on my bike.

Look something like this. Not cheap but very secured.post-24802-0-85677100-1515772134_thumb.jpegpost-24802-0-85677100-1515772134_thumb.jpeg

Hypersonic
(edited)

Its a 160km route; Its impossible to have a grouping or "drafting" as over a long distance and they must have broken up along the way

Must have been a blind spot where he must have flung off after hitting or avoiding cars or even fainted  - heat exhaustion / dehydration or heart attack and fell off  and  succumbed without others even realising as all must be on high adrenalin level since its like coming close to finishing line; Bikers in race will only see whats ahead of them ; Sad  thing and RIP to the departed soul

Also might I add this is not like our local terrain like East Coast Park/ changi Coast Road or others which are open and wide and smooth too and manouvering on unfamiliar terrain added on with heat and exhaustion can lead to alot of incidents;

Even our own OCBC event which I did many years back also had a casualty at the turning cornering and a few bikes collided as it was a hairpin turn

Sad to hear fellow cyclist was alone when he fell and no buddy system.

when u do extreme endurance sports. there's definitely some risk involved. unfortunately for cyclists, the distances involved are too long for any proper medical cover and took so long just to find him.

Should just sell your Ti-bike since there is a price for it now. I have a Lynskey MT-29 running on road tires for PCN riding. Make full use of the infrastructure given.

my Ti bike is like  "cipalang - mix n match" one; brought the frame in from Taiwan about 10 years back then asked a bike mechanic to get parts from Shimano and then saddle/wheels from another brand until like Rojak Bike... and i remember the speedometer is some Cateye brand (I think battery must be leaking by now  ) [bigcry] ; i remember the display all like greyed out

Togoparts is a good platform to sell your bike. Can sell as whole or in parts.
