looking to buy a children's bicycle for my 5yo girl. She's ready to graduate from her balance bike.

Given her height, probably looking at a 16" wheeler.

Decathlon and Treknology will be places we are going to look at. I'm ok paying more for a bicycle that's lighter. Anyway my son will take over the bicycle when she outgrows it.

Any other must go places to take a look?

why?

I go to parks almost every weekend and the neighborhood park is near my flat also.

Anyway can pass down to my son. And they got some younger cousins behind also, so it can always be handed down.

I got a aleoca kids bike for my daughter from ntuc hypemart. Can't recall was was it$89 or $69. It had training wheels, which we removed it. She was happy with it.

unless parents have time to spend with them or cycle with them in the park.

there is one boy staying around my block, he has been cycling around the estate every afternoon after school for few years,  riding from block to block, he just love cycling, smaller bike to roller blade, to scooter then now he riding a bigger bike, he will try all kind of thing with wheels  [laugh]  [laugh]

last week saw him riding a ofo/obike cos he is bored with his own bike  [laugh]  [laugh]

i think weight is important for the kids. my kid's balance bike is very light and that helps them want to learn it cos it's really easy for them to push and turn around etc.

Not looking for something premium but something that is lighter than the cheaper ones which can be really heavy for a child to move around.

Anyway i expect it to be a hand me down item, since she's the eldest grandchild in either side.

true. But we try to do an outdoor activity every weekend if possible and my wife bring them to the nearby park (weather permitting) during the weekdays. For now mostly playground, but when they are older, can let them cycle around the parks

Like for now, my kids take the balance bike to go to my in laws place which is about a 10min walk (adult) from my flat.

i was quite a sedentary child. So don't want my kids to be the same.

How about a foldie? Get a decent brand for lighter body and lasting use.

My max speed is 48.9km/h which i can only sustain for 15sec only.

These girls can ride faster than me for at least 1 mins.

Is it high altitude there?

then its the oxygen factor. they have more blood vessels than sea level dwellers..

that's why Kenya marathon runners do well.

I think it is high altitude + poor equipment.

Ya. In Brazil the kids kick tin cans because ball expensive. If they can kick a can barefoot, and ours got ball and shoes and proper pitch.. we should send our footballers to Brazil!

You can find many used kid’s bike here. There are a lot of like minded parents before you and their kids have outgrown those bikes.

FYI, there will be a bike fest this coming weekend - 10-12 Nov at Suntech.

thanks bear.

I saw the decathlon one. it's just above 8kg for a 14" (suitable size for my girl).

Good thing is that it has the kiddy brake handles. Easy for them to squeeze...

Unless got something much lighter, think the decathlon one is quite suitable.
