Round the world trip

Round the world trip is like that one, isn't it? Chinese we call it 走马看花。 If we are to know every place we visit intimately, each country would take a few weeks!

Be grateful that this bro is kind enough to share his journey with us sitting in the comfort of our home. I cannot imagine the amount of research required to visit the attractions at each of the pit-stop. Just getting the bus or train tickets to get around would have been such a hassle, unless you are splurging by taking taxi everywhere.

Really appreciate it!

Amtrak ride from Penn station in new York to charlottesville. Another storm on the way over. I guess I am wrong to assume that it never or rarely rains during summer.

Charlottesville reminds me of Adelaide. A very quiet place with nothing much happening.

On Saturday, will take a greyhound to Chicago. A more happening place? Dunno but just gotta head in a westerly direction.

Long ride by greyhound from charlottesville to Chicago as the bus was cancelled without anyone being informed. Ended up waiting for eight hours at the greyhound station.

One thing that puzzled, touched and yet frustrated me all at the same time. I was sitting on the floor of the greyhound station, charging my hp, playing my games, basically minding my own business when a man came up to me and gave me $1.50 to buy a drink. I was touched cos such a kind man. I was puzzled why he would do it. I was also frustrated. Do I look like a beggar? But I still took the money...... someone said what's wrong with getting more money :D

Anyway some pics.

Different waiting areas for greyhound. In case anyone wants to take greyhound in the future.

Scenery from the bus. Not sure if you can see if it was raining for part of the way. Surprisingly, summers can be wet. And if you correlate the pictures with the waiting area you can tell i travelled over night and over day as well. Slightly over 24 hours, excluding the eight hours of waiting at charlottesville.

And here I am in Chicago.

Leaving Chicago tonight for a super long bus ride to Las Vegas. Initially planned to go to denver to follow the northern route to seattle but suddenly decided to go to Las Vegas and rent a car and see if I can travel along route 66, visit roswell and "four states monument".

After that it will be north to seattle then south to Los Angeles for my flight to Japan. My trip is almost two thirds over..... So fast, time flies.

Looks like you spending lots of time in US of A.

True in a sense. Cos in Russia basically I sprinted through from Beijing to Paris with stops in irkutsk and Moscow. Hahaha I wanna spend more time in English speaking country. In hindsight seeing the beautiful girls in Russia........ :D

Individual stops are more or less the same.

Seoul - 2 days 1 night

Ferry - 2 days 1 night

Beijing - 4 days 4 nights

Irkutsk - 4 days 3 nights

Moscow - 4 days 3 nights

New york- 4 days 4 nights

Charlottesville - 5 days 4 nights

Chicago - 2 days 2 nights

Las Vegas should be 4 days 3 nights but I might wing it a little so not sure.

I just did some calculations. Based on at this present moment, my expenditure so far is about $8000 dollars all inclusive of visas, air tickets, trans siberian, spending money and accommodation. I think my total expenditure should not go beyond $11000 unless I go crazy like rent a car from seattle to Los Angeles (I am renting a car in Las Vegas and it will add another few hundred dollars to my expenditure).

I will spend about 26 days in USA - 13 July - 8 Aug

In comparison - Seoul to Paris is 23 days - 20 June - 13 July.

Japan - 7 days - 9-15 August

You will see some of the time the number of days and nights are the same. These are situations when I arrived at the city at night. Chicago is a little bit different cos I arrived at night and am leaving tonight at midnight.

Good job! Hope you enjoy this trip. I've done round the world twice averaging 60 days each trip. It was really fun and eye opening.

You should try North Africa the next time. I missed Russia in both trips and will have to make up for it eventually.

I had two extended vacations before.

2004 - can't remember the dates but it was third day Chinese new year to good Friday. 80 plus days. Went to Netherlands, Finland and israel but spent the bulk of my time in Israel as I was a volunteer in their kibbutz.

Now.

Not sure if there will be a third such vacation.....
