Vratenza Supersonic December 11, 2017 Share December 11, 2017 it is normal. It is smaller slightly so that you can stretch the material as you stitch. Since you are stitching on the inner circumference of the wheel, if it is "just nice" the stitched section will have a wrinkled look. sure will find some time to do this as I just received the TB parcel yesterday. I tried to put it on this morning just to try it out. took quite a bit of effort as the cover seems to be a tad too small. Oh well....will try to do it anyways.

You may do a search with english words first, then copy and paste the chinese text from the ads and do another search with chinese words. more ads will appear. for customised steering cover, I used these chinese words. ***car model***专用真皮手缝方向盘套
BoneStock 5th Gear December 19, 2017 Share December 19, 2017 finally found some time to do this. It falls slightly short of expectation. I wasn't able to tuck in the loose ends as the gaps on the steering wheel back cover were really small and tight. So I tried to loosen the backcover but it was so stubborn that it broke my allen key. The quality of the material is not very good. Feels little bit slippery compared to original steering wheel. I may use it for a while since it took so much effort to put it on. But eventually I will most likely remove it as I still prefer the feel of the steering wheel without the leather wrap. Anyway, it is a very good experience.

Vratenza Supersonic June 5, 2019 Share June 5, 2019 Update on my Taobao-sourced steering wheel wrap. Mine was combination of perforated leather and some alcantara-like material. The perforated leather holds up to wear and tear well... The synthetic material not so much... After 2 years this is what it looked like: So decided to re-wrap it again... Now this time going for a higher grade nappa leather/perf leather combination in blue stitching... Removing the old leather wrap: This is how my original steering wheel looks like under the wrap...
Vratenza Supersonic June 5, 2019 Share June 5, 2019 My new nappa leather/perforated leather wrap with the included tools and materials. Pulling the wrap over the steering wheel and aligning the 3, 6, 9 o'clock position. Most important part of the steering wheel wrap to get a good result is making sure the alignments are accurate before you even start stitching. Do not be afraid to pull and tug the leather (they stretch well) to make sure the edges are aligned together.
Vratenza Supersonic June 5, 2019 Share June 5, 2019 First, tuck the 3,6,9 o'clock in using the provided tool. Always tuck like this folded applying pressure on the undersurface to avoid damaging the exterior leather surface. Start the stitch with a "dead-knot" on the inner surface like this. Start from one side and end on the other side. This method works best for the lower left and right section as they relatively are smaller.
Vratenza Supersonic June 5, 2019 Share June 5, 2019 You can stitch every loop nearer to the ends and over angular edges. For long straight stretches, you can do alternate loops. I secure each stitch with an under over pass and give it a firm pull while using the other hand to press the leather edges towards each other to make sure I do not snap the thread while making sure the edges are aligned perfectly. For the tops section, my own method is to tie a simple knot right in the middle of the measured length of thread at the middle loop of the wheel. Then i work my way to the left, finish it and knotted it before taking up the other half and work down the right. I find that this gives the best finish as there is less likelihood of the leather skewing to one side as you work from one end to the other. Once done with all the stitching.... Tuck in the rest of the esdes and corners... This is about 5hrs of work..... With a pair of sore fingers, blood from accidental needle pokes, mozzie bites, sore back... And no... I don't provide installation service.....
Matrix0405 5th Gear June 6, 2019 Share June 6, 2019 Looks perfect. Nicely tucked in , no obvious creases and bulges, means leather evenly distributed thru the round. Good tips on the tucking in the leather and securing the top to stitch the quarter.

Vratenza Supersonic June 11, 2019 Share June 11, 2019 Original steering wheel is synthetic leather... I can deal with syn leather on the seats since I am not butt naked when driving but I am holding the steering all the time... The wrap material feels much nicer than stock. More premium. I prefer a thicker grip for the steering. So the wrap adds an additional girth to the grip which is just nice compared to the original. Doesn't cost much for a mod that you can feel all the time.. .. SGD60 all in.....excluding your own time, sweat and sore fingers. Looks like a good job.But What's wrong with your original steering wheel?Haha I don't.I have more than enough chores to fill up my time. ↡ Advertisement
