If me I'm sure to avoid using it. Good luck to the folks staying near it and using it.

 

I thought Braddell/Toa Payoh flyover also have similar problem.

Yes, why rush to complete this works, when we know the contractor has done substandard work n has unsafe work practices?

 

We need an independent PE to go thru all the works n certify ok, before we restart anyting, n esp not by the same contractor lo..

usually if BCA issue Stop Work Order, their own officers will assess the situation. as for how closely they check, we wont know...

PIE viaduct collapse: Builder facing charges

 

 

SINGAPORE - At least three people and a main contractor will be charged in court on May 30 over the collapse of an incomplete viaduct in Changi, indicating that investigations into the July 14 tragedy have concluded, but signalling further delay to the halted project.

 

In a statement to the stock exchange last week, home-grown construction group OKP Holdings said its wholly-owned unit Or Kim Peow Contractors and group managing director Or Toh Wat will appear in court on May 30.

OKP Holdings' wholly owned subsidiary Or Kim Peow Contractors, group managing director Or Toh Wat, and employees Allen Yee and Wong Kiew Hai have been charged for alleged offences arising from a work-site accident in July last year.

 

The group said it is in the process of seeking legal advice on this.

 

Last July, a road viaduct under construction collapsed near the Pan Island Expressway (PIE) exit to the Tampines Expressway, killing one worker and injuring 10 others. Listed home-grown engineering firm OKP Holdings had clinched the viaduct project in 2015 for S$94.6 million with the lowest bid.

 

The group said in a late night filing on Wednesday that its subsidiary and Mr Or have been summoned to court on May 30 for alleged breaches of the Building Control Act (BCA), as well as the Workplace Safety and Health Act (WSHA).

 

Under the summonses to the employees, Mr Yee and Mr Wong, who are respectively the project director and the project engineer for the project, they have also been requested to appear in court on May 30 for alleged breaches of the BCA and the WSHA. They are also seeking legal advice on this matter, OKP said.

 

"The board is deeply saddened by the unfortunate incident and wishes to reiterate the company's heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased and others injured in the incident," OKP added.

OKP Holdings Q1 profit falls 44% to S$2.8m on lower contribution from construction segment

 

INFRASTRUCTURE and civil engineering company OKP Holdings on Monday posted a 43.7 per cent fall in profit for the first quarter to S$2.8 million due to lower revenue earned from its construction operations.

 

Earnings per share sank to 0.92 Singapore cent from 1.64 Singapore cents in the previous year.

 

For the three months ended March 31, revenue dived 22.7 per cent from S$29.7 million in the year-ago period to S$23 million.

 

The decline in revenue was due mainly to a 36.3 per cent decrease in revenue from the construction segment to S$13.1 million, partially offset by a 7.6 per cent increase in revenue from the maintenance segment to S$9.9 million, it said.

 

Net asset value per share edged up to 40.08 Singapore cents as at March 31, from 39.16 Singapore cents three months ago.

 

Said Or Toh Wat, group managing director: "We will direct our team's efforts in the smooth execution of our pipeline projects and the strengthening of our order book, focusing on our core civil engineering business.

 

"At the same time, we will continue to look for opportunities to diversify our earnings by expanding our property segment, both locally and abroad, to build a recurrent income base."

 

 

No scare no scare, at most have less revenue from road work project, still can go into property segment mah, maybe under a new business entity, OKT?

Cannot be certain lor... court hearing hasn't start yet and they haven't been found guilty yet. Also according to the latest law, we cannot speculate about the case lor..

The project engineer got the worse of the deal in this case. But to be frank, if he see things not safe, he reported to boss and boss don't care, he also cannot do anything unless he's prepared to lost his job by reporting it to the authority and put it onto social media.

 

In Singapore, not much people will dare to report things against the company they work in for things even such as safety lapses unless they're prepared to lost their jobs. This is especially for workers age 35 and above. They'll just bear with it. And ISO 9000 certified or even Health and Safety certified are just pieces of papers.

The biggest question is LTA knew this company to be low on the performing score and yet the contract is being awarded to them. Why? What is the reason given? Cheapest among other contractors? Who are the ppl in LTA gave the go ahead? Why are they no where to be seen or even heard?

This kind of excuse should not be accepted. If your job requires you to do something illegal then you gotta suck it up and report it or else face the consequences. Same goes for the keppel bribery case.
