Hi guys, I’ve reached 12000kms. No issues at the moment. Not hoping to have any.

FYI I emailed FWD to get the arona covered under their car insurance. It’s listed now under their online quote system. The price is competitive. I’m paying such a painful premium under ntuc right now I can’t wait to switch in June when my first year is up.

Thanks for the tip, gamer2030! My road tax is due in May and I just got notice from NTUC to renew my car insurance. I checked with a few companies and FWD is by far the cheapest. Service was good too, they called up and told me about a promotion that was ending this Sunday. Very pleased with it, I also opted for lower excess, improved coverage for M’sia (towing charges etc) and they have NCD protection as standard.

Am in the UK and rented a Citroen C3. While it’s a comfy soft suspension setup, I much prefer the sportier setup of the Arona. The C3 is also smaller inside and it’s not very powerful and has only a five speed manual - overall not as good as the Arona! I haven’t seen a single Arona on the road tho, I’ve been driving over 300 miles around the outside of London.

"It’s a tough call between the C3 Aircross and SEAT Arona. The Citroen is the one to go for if you prioritise comfort and space. Go for a Flair model and the panoramic roof floods the cabin with light, and the choice of seat fabrics and trim finishes make it a joyful place to be.

However, the SEAT is the better option for ease of use and the way it drives. It feels less wayward than the Citroen and is the more planted, reassuring drive on all roads. It’s almost as practical with a big boot, but the inside just isn’t as interesting, although an FR model will ensure a more expensive feel.

For this reason, the Arona just clinches it."

Guys,

How's the aftersales service for vertex?

curious, thanks!

gg for 1st servicing next month, but went back once for minor driving seat fixes , cute Malaysian customer gal was pleasant to talk to, went late @7pm to collect my car, detected air bag error code, the technician still stayed on to try rectify even when he was leaving the centre already.

But of coz, if u want nice posh / properly decorated service environment like C&C service centr , you'll be greatly disappointed. To me, thats secondary.

Thanks for all the info guys!

Sunday was a good Arona day. For the first time I saw an Arona on the road! I think it was blue going from TPE to SLE. I waved at them and they waved back! Then I saw another one on the same day! Parked in Thomson Plaza. A red one!

I salute you all! I realised we look good on the road!

Cheers

I remember FWD does not cover act of god, no doubt their price is competitive. They may have changed their policy wording already, but u can do a check with them. Edited by Soundphile

Are you a new driver? Coz I am also under NTUC for my 1.4T Ateca, but its way cheaper than my 1.6ltre with AIG during 1st year C&C

Back after almost 4 weeks and the Arona was ‘untouched’ all the time - started at the first prod of the button, brakes had to br ‘cleaned’ of the rust on the discs, otherwise the car performed beautifully. Am glad to come back to it after a variety of cars in UK. Driving in sgp is pretty appalling compared to UK, but what to do, no where is perfect!

It’s not me cos I’m in Canada driving around in a rented Hyundai i30 hatch (surprisingly budget, tho it does feel well-built) - I’d rather be driving my non-red Arona!

The i30 is supposed to be one class up, but space is barely more than the Arona, the drive is quite indifferent, ride is ok, steering numb and lifeless, and overall is basic transportation lah. I still feel the Arona is a great all-rounder - can’t think of a better car in its class! I’d love to hear from others what they think.

Hmm, not sure I’m going to spend more money on my Arona, since I’m not using it much. The virtual cockpit looks tempting if it’s not too expensive. I knew a friend who found a contact to upgrade the C class centre console, so won’t be surprised if someone might get into looking at offering this. Or maybe our Seat dealer would offer it! I saw it on the VW Polo when they introduced it at the motor show, it’s pretty cool.

Am renting a Buick Encore, sold in sgp as Opel Mokka but with a 1.4 turbo. Surprisingly mature drive and ride, very quiet and stable on the highway at 115km, better than the Arona in this aspect. But steering has no feel and engine is not as eager as the Arona’s. Not bad at all. (I actually rented a diesel Mokka years ago in Norway but hadn’t bought the Arona yet so couldn’t compare)

On the last leg of my trip and am renting a Kia Forte now, the latest model. It’s a mid-size 4-door sedan and looks decent but the format is not superior to the Arona space-wise despite being so much bigger outside. The car appears smooth but the ride is quite brittle over broken surfaces. Absolutely hate the moulded stitch look on the dash! (Also on the Honda CR-V!) otherwise the dash is a clean and simple design and most of the plastics are ok.

Driving this just highlights how the Arona is such a thoroughly well thought out design, great for the city but actually great for anywhere (even in large countries like Canada) - why drive a large car when a smaller one gets the job done just as well if not better?

The Forte has just 7k+ km on it and the other cars I rented were even lower, all felt well made and didn’t squeak or rattle at all - a testament to modern manufacturing standards. It all boils down to whether the mechanicals can last and whether they can hold up - no point an engine that doesn’t break down but drives like it’s got sludge in the bearings! Here’s hoping our Aronas will be great driving cars for years to come!
