My primary 1 son got high myopia about 400 deg.

Doctor asked us to consider atropine.

We are undecided due to concerns about long term side effects.

Anyone in similar shoes?

Side note:

My wife is over 1000 deg

I am about 700 deg.

You probably have to ask a ophthalmologist for their opinion regarding the side effects.

The question u are asking is very specific and only a specialist will know the material well enough, to give u a good sense of the pros and cons.

Even a general ophthalmologist may have some difficulty giving u enough information to make a informed decision.

I have seen 3 ophthalmologist (2 renowned private and 1 from SNEC)

all carried out detailed eye checks

both private say...."sure, try, no problem...no side effects...don't worry"

snec say ..."too early to see if there are side effects.....wait and see....:

I personally want to try but wife scared

Just try.

Can't do worse than this speed of myopism gain.

From what I know the concentration is extremely low so should be ok.

Our eyes are important in our lives so make the best of it and you gonna try with little side effect as I would think so...

Things that you cannot see do not struggle to see or aim, invest in good lighting at home and do not find things in the dark,

switch on the light if you cannot see or find.

Always remember : do not let your eyes struggle but to see thing instantly.

Upgrading all the lighting to digital to remove all the flicking effect as you may not be know of the side effect.

i bought that pinhole specs! $40+ from popular..

it can be quite frustrating to see things as it is not as sharp + slightly blurry + limited vision

plus my hubby kept laughing at me when i put it on. he said i look like alien   :darkmood:

so been wearing in on and off for a few weeks.. havent seen the effect yet

Possible to try one eye at a time like lasik?

I'm high while my wife is lower...my elder one hardly put on her glasses is holding up well whereas my boy's degree is ever escalating and he wears his all the time when he's awake.

Slight consolation, my boy is doing better in the school work...

There's statistics to show it works and now there's a low dose formulation.

Studies by Nus Prof Saw has shown it works.

But every treatment has a potential risk. So long as your dr can monitor it can be ok.

And stick to one dr la.. too much spoil the broth

If you need pm me, one of my students is in children's ophthalmology.

i have an ex-colleague whose daughter was on atropine when she was young.

as a result, she couldn't wear contact lens or do lasik.

I don't have the details, perhaps its due to other complications.

Unless you are using the high percentage one, 0.1 %. That one side effect damn terrible. My daughter gotta wear sunglass in the day. Can't really enjoy outdoor. So it causes the pupils to dilate. After a year, I stop.. now another one on 0.01%. No side effect noticed. Also not sure if the progression slowed down until the next check up. You can try. Stop if you feel that it is affecting her daily lifestyle.

Or else try the progresive lenses that my elder daughter is having now.

Actually, no harm trying.. except the pocket. Just monitor.

To be frank.. not a matter of iphone or mobile devices that causes it.. just that in our country, not much far distance for our eyes muscles to tune itself. Everything we see, even the naked neighbour next block, also so near..

Plus genes.... now it is not only common to see children wearing glasses but with high myopia..

Want to prevent myopia?

Marry someone with no myopia.

Move to Africa and don't do any form of reading.

Otherwise accept that myopia is not a disease, and move on. You can moderate the amount of near work, but unless you ban reading, it will be impossible to stop it.
