The 1.0 l turbo was mentioned in ST today.. probably the same engine as the A3.. but it costs about 10k less SRP..

That will get some buyers interested..

And if it has a revised (read more reliable GB), then it has a solid seller on it's hands..

Same gearbox as a3

Reliable but wear rate higher.

Went round to see the new Golf last week, and essentially the car looks and feels pretty much like the last generation.

There's a 99k offer for the no frills 1.0T right now, and for those aspiring to have a conti car on a budget, it's not a bad alternative to the A3 and other conti models.

But I also saw a stalled Golf (SKU) and the rep did say the gearbox is pretty much the same one .. so caveat emptor..

stalling may not be due to gearbox. nothing wrong with the dry dsg. From Alfa to audi to merc, there are models that use dry clutches. while the wear rate is higher, it's also a cheaper system.

Question:

Seem like there is an update to the 1.4tsi engine from 120hp to 150hp.

Which model year was it effected. How to determine which golf 1.4tsi has the higher power output?

I believe it was in 2014 BUT comes in two version. 122bhp and 150 BHP.

VCS sort of later only bring in 122BHP.

Majority was the R-line that had 150bhp / EQP model.

BUT the R-line for the variant is 122 BHP.

Confused.? Just buy the 2.0T and LG - Lifes good.

What is the catch with the Golf 1.4 TSI R-LINE launched 2-3 yrs ago?

Seem like the power output higher than standard. 150hp 250nm vs 120hp 200nm.

I assume the that makes it Cat B? How does that translated to 2nd hand purchase running cost?

The Mk7 1.0-1.4 is dry. Some say problems solved, some say problems persist. Personally, I would not touch the dry if given a choice. The Mk7.5 w 1.5L (not here yet) not too sure.

Actually, I like DSG. It’s quick, responsive n smooth. But my experience has been on the wet 6spd on the GTI and wet 7-spd on the A6.

That’s why I highly recommend the GTi instead of the 1.4tsi. You’ll love the drive n understand why journos still prefer it despite other hot hatches having more power, more torque, quicker 0-100. It’s simply a nicely balanced car for urban, everyday use (as I presume you’re not buying one to go tracking) and the DSG farts that it makes are heavenly....lol

The R-line is juz a trim level but mechanically still a regular Golf. Nothing wrong wif that as a Golf is still one of the better cars around but i think you’re looking for that something special in a hatch right?
